Edinburgh City Centre (Lauriston Place) hotel

Booked hotel for end of August, wanted to change my booking but link on email wouldn't work. Rang hotel and they informed me that I booked for april 10th 2 rooms for 1 night and never showed up. There is no way this could have happened as I booked the hotel at 10 o'clock at night on april 10th for 2 nights not one and for August 29th not 10th. I explained all this to the receptionist but he kept blaming me. They took £380 from my account and were willing to refund me once I booked for another date. I was then informed to book for my original dates in August it would be £1025.00. I checked the website for the same dates afterwards and the price was £800 . I now knew I had been scammed from the start so I reported it to my bank and froze my account and cards. Also I was fobbed off at reception when I asked to speak to a manager, told he was busy and he would ring me within 2 hours. Needless to say no phone call ever came. Complete scam merchants.

Rooms are generally nice but I felt there was a shortage of staff. At breakfast we had to wait for everything, even empty plates and teaspoons.

Have stayed in many Premier Inn’s, I like the style of the hotels and know what to expect. The only benefit of this hotel was its proximity to the Royal mile. The room was dirty with lots of debris under the bed, the decor was dated and damaged. The bathroom had cracked tiles and the shower rail had been bodge repaired. We had plenty of time before the restaurant was closed on our arrival, but was told if we hadn’t booked, we wouldn’t be seated, after speaking with the chef, it was decided that we could eat. The food was “acceptable” but not great so we never ate there for the rest of our stay. The breakfast was good with available of seats on an earlier arrival to the dining room. The place is clearly understaffed, with us having to track them down on a number of occasions, even to pay the evening meal bill. I would not choose to stay there again on our next trip to Edinburgh. It states that parking is paid for, this is not the case if you use the parking app, resulting in an £89.00 parking bill.

Was concerned about staying in this Premier Inn based on reviews that I had read, but stay was excellent, lovely room, spotlessly clean barhroom, no drawer space but foe one night rear was okay.Good selection ar breakfast but fried eggs (cooked in an oven and not fried I think) were like bullets bur apart from that a good breakfast, a special shout out to the restaurant hostess Marley who is an absolutes asset to this property with her charming smile and welcome. Wish the same could be said for the young lady that checked us in who obviously doesn’t realise she is in the hospitality industry.

Location was not bad but you need to use taxis if you can’t walk far. The atmosphere was ok and the rooms were ok but the decor needs a freshen up. The value was ok and it served its purpose.
