Edinburgh A7 (Dalkeith) hotel

The hotel rooms are absolutely fine - what you would expect in any Premier Inn - clean and comfortable. However visitors need to know that the pub that used to be next door is now a restaurant of the Premier Inn and has a more limited menu both for food and bar drinks. As mentioned, we found the hotel fine but our evening meal was very poor indeed. Chips tasted unpleasant. We asked for side salads and they said they could do these - and all they consisted of was lettuce and some tomato rings. Fish was small and overcooked. We would not eat here again.

Dont let the massive fence give you a false sence of security. Your car is not safe at this hotel. Due to the golf driving range thats behind the hotel. I parked my car and went to check in, but on return to the car i noticed a random golfball sitting in the middle of the road between guests cars. So i immediately moved my car to the far end of the hotel and parked as close to the building as possible, my caution was rewarded as the next day i noticed some poor souls car had been hit the passenger front window was smashed and another golball was laying next the the damaged car. Also if you view this hotels pictures it shows a full bar with draught pumps....Not true. They only have bottles and thats fine if your rich enough to pay £5 for a 330ml peroni...Not me. 5mins down the road is a Tesco and you can walk it as a pavement has almost been fully built. I cant fault any of the staff or the hotel itself our room no21 looked newly refurbished with everything seeming to be brand new. Only stay here if you drive a works van or a car you dont care about.

Lovely, modern, fresh rooms. Lovely breakfast and fantastic team who made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend

The restaurant in this hotel is extremely poor. It is a very reduced menu. We ordered the Beer-Battered Fish & Chips, served with skin-on chips, peas and tartare sauce. We got breaded fish and limp skinny chips with no skins-on. (See attached photo.) This came with the smallest portion of peas I have ever been served! Christmas music was playing throughout out meal - in February!!! At breakfast we had to make tea / coffee using hot water in flasks - not great for tea and only Nescafe sachets available. Breakfast is cooked to order and was good but the portions of vegetables was again extremely small, I expected more than three half mushrooms! Towards the end of our breakfast staff came in and began to have breakfast themselves and I noticed that they were being served coffee from a machine behind the bar (away from the food area.) We had not been offered this. When I asked I was served a lovely coffee but if I hadn't spotted staff being served this I wouldn't have known. We were in a Premier Plus room with a temperamental Nespresso machine. I reported this to staff but it was several hours before someone looked at it (whilst we were out.) The next morning it produced one cup of coffee and then no more. Poor.
