Elgin hotel

We often use Premier Inns without paying for their "meal deal" but we did buy the meal deal on this occasion but never again. The restaurant was staffed by one man who was obviously doing his best to serve everyone without success. About 50% of the menu was unavailable, leaving very little to choose from unless you're a fan of burgers, which we are not. We both chose tomato and basil soup, which was lukewarm at best, and we had to pay extra for bread! I chose a pasta dish which the menu said used "roast baby tomatoes" - I found one amongst the small helping of pasta and sauce. My wife ordered rice with sweet and sour sauce with battered prawns. The batter was over cooked and the prawns hard. She left most of the congealed sauce. Breakfast was nothing like their description, rubbery eggs etc. The hotel is on an industrial estate with many vans in the car park, the owners of them seemed to know better places to eat and dink. There was an outside area with tables, but the area was overgrown with weeds. We have stayed in Premier Inns from Inverness to Torquay but never found one as bad as the one in Elgin.

Decent room ,clean and tidy . Missing a biscuit with the free tea and coffee. Be careful if wanting food at the pub next door . Was waiting 25 mins to be seated and then asked if I had booked . Had to say no as the hotel didn't have a booking sheet when I arrived . Was told they were fully booked till 8-30 pm .not good for someone who had driven for 8 hours to be told to come back in 2 hours . The place looked very quiet with only a handful of diners and only 1 guy on duty . I decided to go to McDonald's for some food and went elsewhere for breakfast the next morning also .

The whole place just needs a bit of an overhaul. The breakfast is brilliant but as for the evening meal it was shocking. The restaurant is due to close at the end of June 2026 under Premier Inn's new strategy of taking all catering back in house. The standard of the evening meals (x3) was just terrible and unfortunately there is nothing else around apart from Burger King and McDonalds. The fire doors do not close due to a new carpet but it looked like the carpet had been been down for ages. This was highlighted to the reception and it was just brushed aside as an ongoing issue. It looks tired and unloved and the not usual Premier Inn standard at all.

The room was sitting at 26 degrees the whole time I was there. A fan was already on once I got my keys to the room and this did not lower the temperature of the room at all. Far too hot to sleep comfortably and had to sleep with fan on which was extremely loud.

Even though the staff were very helpful, the hotel is understaffed. I never had my room cleaned in 5 nights even though I asked reception twice. Had to go to reception for clean towels. Booked twin rooms got double beds. Couldn’t get food some nights due to staff shortage. Wi fi was poor.
