"Great breakfast"
Had a great breakfast, the chef, Keith I think was very attentive and cooked our eggs to order.

"Avoid"
Hotel was very dirty and in a run down state. Horrible smell of sewage when you walk through reception. Aircon doesn’t work and shower runs dangerously cold and hot! Generally everything is worn out and hotel is in need of a serious refurb or demolishing.

"Refurbishment needed asap"
Tired hotel. Unloved and disinterested staff. Rooms (we had two) were stale, untidy and humid. Carpets not clean, mildew in bathrooms.

"Not the usual Premier Inn high standards!"
We stayed for four nights our experience was a bit of a mixed bag. We have stayed at numerous other Premier Inn's and know what they are like. Usually they offer a friendly and high standard at a reasonable price.
The Premier Inn at St. Andrews is different. It is expensive for a Premier Inn, but that is probably because of it being in St. Andrews where everything is expensive.
It's location is good if you are prepared to walk the 20 - 30 minutes walk into town (depending on your speed), and we were always able to get a parking spot although it was very busy. There is an M and S very close by (a two minute walk if that).
Breakfast was good and reasonably priced but there is no separate bar area. Instead the bar area is incorporated into the dining room which is odd to say the least. It's not welcoming as a bar, and if you wanted a drink, most people appeared to go out to somewhere else.
I can't comment on the evening meals as we always ate somewhere else, but it's the usual Premier Inn menu.
The staff were better during week days, and by this I mean they were friendlier, and seem to be far more competent and interested in their job. There was a distinct lack of friendliness and interest (and competence) during the weekend which we found surprising for a Premier Inn. The only exception over the weekend was one member of staff.
Don't expect someone to be at reception all the time because it is often unattended - again in our experience especially over the weekend.
Our bedroom had some mould at the top of the window and ventilation is clearly an issue. The hot water would fluctuate between hot and cold which is frustrating and potentially dangerous.
Apart from that it was clean, and what you would expect from a Premier Inn.
And so would we return? In all honesty I don't know, which is not something I have felt before when staying at a Premier Inn. There is clear much room for improvement.

"Definitely worth considering if visiting St Andrews"
Well located, easy to find. Room was perfectly adequate, clean and cost about what I would expect. There was some traffic noise from the main road outside the window but it wasn't terrible. Staff were polite and efficient.
