Oban hotel

We use Premier Inn quite a bit, and find them consistently good. I don’t normally bother to write a review on them, but on this occasion it’s different. What made this visit stand out from every other Premier Inn we have stayed in is the staff here. We needed help on a big problem we had. I went to reception thinking no one would be able to help. The lady on reception was most helpful and within an hour had sorted it!

I hadn't been to a Premier Inn before so Oban is perhaps the same as all the others. A totally soulless place lacking in character. There was rarely anyone at reception & the buzzer didn't work. Room was a bit warm & stuffy but I couldn't use air con as the noise would have kept me awake. The fan made a rumbling sound & the refrigeration unit gurgled. Windows don't open. The rooms have very poor sound insulation. I heard the person next door coughing, I heard their phone ringing and I heard them talking on the phone. On both nights the TV switched itself on in the early hours. I didn't sleep much anyway because the bed was uncomfortable. No phone in room to contact reception. No point in phoning the international call centre. Cooked buffet breakfast would have been average if the food had been warm but it wasn't. I won't be rushing back to Premier Inn anytime soon. The two members of staff that I spoke to, a Ukrainian girl & a Romanian girl were both very pleasant. I have no complaints about them.

Great location, staff lovely. Room comfy. However, the bathroom has an issue with ventilation. Water ingress at floor level causing paint to bubble and coming away from the skirting board. Pink mould behind the bathroom door indicating not cleaned there in quite a while. Back mould in the grout behind taps. Lastly, black mould on ceiling and paint starting to come away. Again, no sign of an extractor fan coming on in the bathroom when the light is switched on. I do wonder if this is a cost/energy use reduction on the part of Premier Inn. In which case, it is very disappointing as I am allergic to black mould and will need to find another chain who takes better care of their guests and buildings.

Excellent location for shopping, ferry and train. Paid parking reasonable on site. Our accessible room was very clean and comfortable. Helpful staff
