"A pleasant place at a reasonable rate"
A week end visit to Mannheim for the New Objectivity = Neue Sachlichkeit exhibition in the Kunsthalle and a Colourage concert in the Rosengarten. The hotel is close to the central railway station. One can easily walk, but if at night it may be better to use the Reichskanzler Mueller Str as the one along the railway line (Heinrich von Stephan Str) did not seem so safe/pleasant - but that is just my sense. I arrived on Friday morning and could store my luggage for free. The lady at the reception was very friendly. Check-in was at 3pm. They told me at check-in that the hotel will not clean the room unless one specifically asks for it. I had asked via email for a quiet room in a corner of the hotel and got one on the 5th floor - far away from the elevator. Upon request my friend who arrived the next day was given the room next door. We both got double beds which was very comfortable. Yes, one could hear the trains on the railway line, but not very loudly. My sleep was not disturbed. The room was cool, but the heating worked quickly. There was a water heater, cups and various tea bags and coffee. One could get more tea bags from downstairs. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean - the shower worked; the bathroom door could not be closed well - it did not bother me - I was on my own. There was a comfortable arm chair with desk in the room. Also a TV. The curtains closed well. There was a safe in the room and an ironing board. Hangers for the jackets; a place for the rest of the luggage. There were spots on the carpet, but that did not bother me. It was overall clean. The breakfast was great - a big variety on a buffet basis. The coffee tasted good. The staff was very friendly. Check out was at noon - so there was ample time. The closest tram station was at Kopernikus Str., just around the corner. Very convenient. Overall a pleasant place at a reasonable rate.
      "Good and Bad!"
We initially stayed for 2 nights then came back for another 5 nights. Positive points. Nice new and clean hotel. Room was spacious and modern with a large walk in shower cubicle. 5 minute walk from train station. Staff helpful and customer focused. Happy hour between 1700 - 1900. All drinks 50% off. Negative points. Breakfast well overpriced at €16.90 and doesn’t compare to the UK, all you can eat deal. The quality of the sausage is exceptional poor! During our 5 night stay the room wasn’t cleaned once. We had to go to reception and physically get toilet paper and fresh towels. The negative points are more than likely come from the management team. Staff at front of house are left to deal with the poor decisions from the managers.
      "Average stay"
This Premier Inn is similar to the others you'll find in the UK and Europe. Good points: An excellent checkin with a very helpful receptionist. We were asked if we needed our room cleaning during our two night stay, to save money. We agreed not to bother. There is a bar next to reception. Parking is available and free. It's a 10-15 min walk from the station Breakfast is the standard Premier Inn buffet breakfast. Negative points: We knew there would be no cleaner so we're surprised to come back to find the bed made. Why is this negative? The cleaner removed all towels, and we had a second night with no shower soap. I had to go down to reception at 1 in the morning to get towels, so not convenient. The bed was very soft. I'm used to firmer beds in Premier Inns. It was fine for a short stay but the cleaning arrangements need improving. If a customer is asked to avoid room cleaning, agrees to this, but the cleaner goes in and steals all the towels, it isn't a good service.
      "Bright and new."
One night at this bright, clean, new Premier inn was all that was necessary to know that I would be returning whenever in Mannheim. Apart from all the necessary items in a practically priced room: a GOOD shower, comfortable clean beds and bedding, extra items stood out: Absolutely no outside noise from main roads, railways, and passenger aircraft. The accommodation is equipped with the largest Television set I have yet to see in a hotel room, perfect for relaxation. A super and clean bar/breakfast room. Recommended.
      "Not your average Premier Inn…?"
Stayed here for one night as part of an Interrail holiday as the hotel is just about about 5-6 minutes’ walk from Mannheim HBF which made a good staging point, especially to see beautiful Heidelberg which is just 10-15 minutes away from Mannheim by train. This is the first Premier Inn I have visited in Germany but is probably not representative of all of the chain’s other properties in the country. This is because the hotel is clearly a former Holiday Inn Express, as many of the bedroom‘s fittings were clearly the same as those used by the competing IHG brand. It felt a very strange blend of the two and was much more spacious, comfortable and well appointed than any Premier Inn room I have stayed at in the UK. The service at check in (and again on departure) from Ann and her colleagues was very personable and helpful. The room itself was clean, comfortable but not that quiet as the hotel lies between the railway lines and a busy road, so there was some noise from both, especially given that, in the absence of air conditioning at this time of year, we needed to open the window to cool the otherwise overly warm room. Beds and pillows were comfy and the shower and towels were both good. Breakfast is served in a spacious and smart dining area on the ground floor. The selection of items on the buffet was impressive and most were of reasonable quality. A better selection of fresh fruit would have been nice and I did have to ask the restaurant staff to read the ‘crispy bacon’ sign next to the otherwise fleshy, fatty looking rashers which were initially on display, to ask them to take what was on offer back in to the kitchen and make it fit with the description! Overall a reasonable choice for a functional stay. It’s not situated in a particularly pretty location and is about a 10-15 minute walk into the heart of the city centre.
