Marlborough hotel

Overall satisfied. Room was exactly what was expected. Clean and functional with hot drinks facility with extra coffees, sugars, milks and the like available in reception if needed. Good shower. One or two niggles though. Firstly had the meal deal and was looking forward to having the mixed grill for dinner. Ordered it only to be told: no steak! Offered a full piece of gammon and an extra sausage, so not the end of the world, if slightly disappointing. Should have been told anything not available before we ordered! Service was a bit erratic and initially we were charged more for the supplements than we should have. That was resolved without any problem when we pointed out that the portion of chips was the left overs from my mixed grill dish with more promised, but never materialised. The salad was supposed to have croutons in it, but they too were missing. We were advised before ordering dessert what was not available though. That aside we enjoyed the meal! Happy hour two drinks for £8 was a good deal but limited in choice, but we made good use of this! Breakfast was great on both the continental and the traditional sides. Good point to note was the plates were hot: not always something you get at buffet breakfasts. Finally, there was no toilet paper in the pubic area mens toilet, which was reported to reception, who seemed aware as they said they were waiting for a delivery! Could be awkward for someone…!

Went for dinner with family recently. The meal and service were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble , especially with two fussy teenagers! Our server Charlie had a permanent smile and was very friendly and patient. Will be revisiting soon and have recommended to family and friends as we are local to the area.

Excellent hotel, very welcoming and clean. Michael on reception and later in restaurant was great, his communication skills are outstanding taking the time to speak to all guests. The breakfast was very tasty and would visit hotel again. I would have given a 5 star but the air conditioning in the room leaked into our room at night time and no phone in room to inform staff.

I may have reviewed here before and if I have I apologise but I’m happy to do so again. I’ve stayed here several times over the last few weeks as my father has been in hospital nearby. Without exception the staff both on reception and in the restaurant are pleasant, efficient and friendly. My room has always been clean and tidy. I have eaten in the restaurant most stays and the food is well presented and tasty. I had the fish and chips last night and frankly it was as good as I’ve had anywhere. The smothered chicken is very good and good value I feel. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel.
