"Do not book a room here without AC. Hard lesson learnt."
Our room number 75 was hotter than the sun, 31.5 degrees day and night. Yes and night. A fan was provided but the room was stifling, so much so I do believe it posed a health and safety risk. I understand why windows are restricted but in a red warning heatwave other mitigations need to be put in place. So many fire doors, again for good reason, but this meant that there was zero air flow and the floor where we were was unbelievably uncomfortable. Sleeping was impossible and getting ready for the wedding we were attending was just awful. We did ask to move rooms to one with AC but they were all taken, as expected in the heatwave. Other options should have been provided and staff supported in doing so even if that does mean opening all the doors to get air moving.

"Comfortable stay"
I stayed here for 2 nights as I was working away. I was treated by friendly and helpful staff. The room was very clean and well equipped for the price. Louise on reception was amazing. No job was too small and all the staff went above and beyond. I would highly recommend. Even though the temperature was so hot and they seemed under staffed, everyone went that extra mile.

"Not a bad hotel but a bad experience"
I've stayed at the Hockley Heath branch of Premier Inn in the past and had a great stay, although on this occasion the experience was poor.
We stayed in room 32 and the bathroom spelt awful. It smelt like there has been a longstanding problem with damp. The only way to avoid the smell was to close the bathroom door, although the drawback with that is that the smell was even worse when we had to use the bathroom.
Additionally, the last few days have been the hottest days of the year. The room wasn't air conditioned, so we had no choice but to leave the window open, which was't ideal with the room being on the ground floor next to the car park Whilst the hotel provided an oscillating fan, it made little difference as it simply moved warm air around the room. If you're planning to visit during hot weather, paying a higher premium for a Premier Plus room would be a better option, as our room without air con was unbearable and we had 2 terrible night's sleep.
The staff are all absolutely lovely, but they can only do so much if Whitbread Plc are unwilling to invest in maintaining the hotel.

"The staff here are fantastic!"
This is the second time staying here. The number 1 reason for 5 stars is security. As a woman travelling alone, I am always security conscious. The first time I stayed here there was a man hovering behind me at check in. The woman at check in noticed this and handed me my key card pointing to the room number instead of saying it out loud. This in itself gets 5 stars.
I have to travel this area monthly and I have tried almost all hotels in the area and this is the one I have come back to.
I have eaten in the restaurant. The staff look after you very nicely. It isn't The Ritz but there is enough variation on the menu to suit any diet. The Ned Sauvignon Blanc is a very decent choice for a drink.
The rooms and bed and bathroom are all comfortable and clean. It is very quiet as it is in the countryside despite being so close to major travel routes.
I arrived for my second visit on a stifling hot day. 31 degrees at 7pm!
The very lovely Louise on reception realised I had accidentally booked into a room usually reserved for people with mobility issues. Not only did she search for an alternative, she managed to find a room which had been cancelled at the last minute that had air conditioning. It was a lovely thing to do and much appreciated after a long drive and then a full day in the office.
All the staff here are always friendly. Highly recommend.

"Fantastic staff, new rooms"
Lovely stay for 1 night at this premier inn. My daughter’s (9) words were “this is the best premier inn we have stayed in!” Staff were friendly and accommodating. We were missing a set of towels in the bathroom and our child’s bed hadn’t been made up but asked at reception and both issues were resolved immediately, and willingly :) Rooms are the new style and in really great condition. The hotel was very quiet especially for a Saturday evening. We had the meal deal and this really saved us some money, food at dinner time was good and they were happy to oblige our odd little requests when ordering our meals! Breakfast was fab, everything kept topped up and hot food was to order so much fresher than when kept out on the buffet. Everyone served us with a smile and they bought round a little Father’s Day chocolate treat to the table at breakfast. Thank you to all the staff who served us over the weekend, we had a really great stay:)
