Birmingham South (Rubery) hotel

Hotel good, restaurant evening meal awful. Room and bathroom clean and ok. There are posters advertising cocktails… chilled glasses of something sparkling. Reality… ‘flat’ Prosecco barely chilled. Food is ‘let’s do the least we have to do to fulfil this order.’ One of the worst eating experiences I’ve ever had. The ‘garden’ (ha ha) is closed, with broken picnic tables still in situ. Why??? Someone rough sleeping under awning. This not a complaint, just an observation. Breakfast ok, apart from staff more interested in their phones rather than customers.

5 star service from Becky. She recognises me as I stay here regularly as its convenient for work. She is always happy attentive and gies above and beyond.

No air con in rooms, like sleeping in a sauna, only option was to open a window which increases the noise levels. Not a good nights sleep, continental breakfast poor.

We have stayed at Birmingham Rubery on numerous occasions, it’s usually ok, but this is the worst stay by far. Bathroom not cleaned fully (previous occupants waste in bin). We find it impossible to change the temperature in the room, despite leaving window open and resetting the thermostat to 19°c, the temperature remained at 23.5° throughout. It’s been the same with all of our stays here - might be ok for some people, but it’s too warm for us. It’s noticeable that Premier Inn don’t ask about sleep quality anymore when asking for a review., previously guaranteeing a good nights sleep. To say we had disturbed sleep in our 1st floor room is an understatement. Occupants above were walking around, in the very early hours on both nights waking us up. Never heard noise like it from an above room before and we have stayed many times there. There’s a skeleton staff in this hotel, nobody around in reception most of the time apart from at checkout when a couple of staff could be heard chatting away in a back room. Hope we don’t have to return as our daughter who we visit is moving soon .
