Bury St Edmunds North (A14) hotel

I’ve stayed at hundreds of Premier inns over a business career of 30 plus years, and this was the worst one. Why, because it had a fan system in the bedroom that was the noisiest I’ve ever come across. My first impression of the hotel, once I’d parked, was that it didn’t look like a typical Premier Inn. I don’t know, but I’m betting that this was a hotel they took over and labelled Premier Inn, but they had to keep the (very old fashioned) ventilation system. Upon arriving in the room I couldn’t believe my ears. There was no getting away from the noise of the fan. There was no fuse box in the room and even when I turned the fan’s central valve as far as I could, the noise was still very loud. Luckily I always pack ear plugs, but I had to ram these in which I find uncomfortable. So not good. I asked of course to move to another room but was told all the rooms have the same “exhaust ventilation fan”, so there was nothing I could do. Now I use PI routinely because it’s quiet! So this was a real let down. If you can sleep through this type of noise you’ll find this hotel offers pretty much what other PI hotels offer, so you’ll be ok. But if, like me, you would prefer a quiet night, AVOID this hotel at all costs.

There is plenty of free parking, and check-in is easy. The staff were very friendly and helpful telling us the best way to town and things to see on way. The room was good, but we noticed several dark stains on duvet that showed, though the white duvet cover. The breakfast was great value for money as much as you can eat buffet, check out was also easy.

Good value as always. The furthest away from the town centre of the 2 Premier Inn hotels, it is usually the cheaper of the 2 hotels. Inside it is very clean, comfortable and reasonably quiet despite the large Tesco store next door and the 2 main roads just outside. Comfy bed and pillows with a very clean bathroom and shower. The tv is limited, and the restaurant downstairs is basic but also good value for money. The breakfast is excellent, but you need to request vegetarian sausages. There is a meal deal that features both breakfast and evening meal at a good discounted rate. You can book this either before or when you arrive at the hotel. Drinks are limited, and the wine is not very exciting. The main problem is the walk back from the town centre after an evening out. Parking is free whereas the other Premier Inn car park is council run and you now have to pay. £13 for the night, the last time I stayed there. This Premier Inn is close to the train station and 1/2 a mile from the bus station.

I have stayed here a few times now, and each visit has felt just as welcoming as the first. I especially want to give so so much credit to the staff for consistently providing outstanding service. A special thank you to Justin, Lek, and Fran for going above and beyond to make my stay so enjoyable. Thanks for looking after me :) The rooms are always clean, spacious, and comfortable, making it easy to relax and enjoy my time there. I would 100% highly recommend staying here!
