Barnsley (Dearne Valley) hotel

Me and my family stayed here on a whim midweek and the overall experience was fairly positive. Sadly due to staffing issues the room wasn't ready when we arrived at 3pm, but the manager personally went to assist the cleaners so our room would be ready quick. 10 minutes later, we were checked in and in the room. On the first visit to the bathroom we found evidence of a yeti attack (hairs everywhere), but one quick trip to the reception and the manager immediately came to rectify it. We then came to have a nosey at the advertised play areas for the kids.. There are none, despite the app and website advertising it (6/8/25).apparently the brewers fayre (and play areas) have been ripped out and replaced with "the social". Shame considering it was literally the reason we chose this hotel over others. We then asked about evening meal (not to start serving until 6pm) and decided to reserve just in case. When we went for our meal we were met by the lovely Katy, what a credit to the hotel she was. Nothing too much trouble, attentive to finishing each course and great with the kids (no easy feat as they're autistic). The poor woman was run ragged single handedly running the bar, bussing the food, seating guests, changing barrels and taking orders. The food was overall good, short waiting times, hot and tasted good. Breakfast time was a similar experience regarding quality and speed, however the coffee machine was in need of some repairs (although it did work) and the juice glasses could of done with another run through the dishwasher. In summary, we would stay again (but only if Katy is still here).

Great stay here, staff were lovely especially Kate in the restaurant, nothing was too much trouble and she was running around on her own making sure she spoke to everyone and made sure they were ok and had everything they needed. Really lovely lady.

Recently refurbished rooms, bar and restaurant. Rooms are clean and comfortable, good temperature control system meaning a comfortable nights sleep. Ambient lighting in bathroom great addition for night time use without disturbing others. Usual perks, tea coffee, hairdryer. The change to glass mugs is a good one for a nice large cuppa in the mornings. Restaurant and bar modern and tasteful. Food value for money, particularly if purchasing the meal deal. Good choice on menu and we enjoyed the food. Big shoutout to Katy! We would like to thank Katy who is a real asset to the hotel. Katy made our evening and breakfast enjoyable. Great host, attentive service, very personable. We will definitely book here again. The one thing that could make the stay even better is EV charging points in the car park!

Good hotel, good value, however room was quite warm (July) and several breakfast items ran out of stock or were unable to be cooked due to broken hob.

We always stay at Dearne Valley because they provide the same excellent service every time. Special mention to Katy in the restaurant. She is everything you can ask of in an employee, with her sunny, caring, approachable manner. Nothing was too much to do for you, despite running things all on her own. A Star ✴️
