"Sadness for staff."
Lenny Henry would not be happy here at Shrewsbury. Bring your own lift, apparently one of the two lifts has been out of order for 4 - 5 months. Room was spotless, but the room lighting had 2 bulbs blown. The hotel is woefully understaffed, and the present staff valiantly struggle to meet the expectations of the guests. If leaving the staff a tip ask them how much of the tip they receive if payed by card.

"A pleasant stay - thanks to the staff"
Stayed here on a two-night break with a friend. The hotel is centrally located, a short walk from the station. A little tatty on the outside, needs a facelift however, the reception and bar areas are ok. Check-in was a nightmare due to there being only one (very pleasant) lady receptionist on duty and two self-service checkin-ins that no-one wanted to use meaning a huge queue formed. A male receptionist appeared later on and encouraged the reluctant guests to use the self-service machines. Why on earth do they install these? Guests prefer to speak to a human being especially if they've queries to address. If it's a cost-cutting exercise then it's a very short-sighted move they'll regret in the long-term.
The room was ok, basic but clean and comfy. Windows unfortunately do not open however, the air conditioning was reasonable. Plenty of hot water/fresh towels and extra bedding if needed. Very comfy bed/ pillows. Breakfast and dinner were very good and the meal-deal was value for money. The communal areas, landings etc., were dusty and a little neglected. Only one lift working. Damp smell in the downstairs toilets.
The most positive part of the stay was the professionalism of the staff who were obviously very stretched/short staffed but worked hard to maintain standards, often multi-tasking at different sections. Shannon, especially, kept smiling and provided excellent customer service whilst under great pressure, dealing with irate customers with courtesy and politeness. Totally unflappable! She is a credit to Premier Inn. Lyndsey was another stand-out team player who worked very hard to keep the breakfast area clean and tidy despite meeting herself coming back! I sincerely hope these ladies are appreciated by the powers that be, their work-ethic and dedication are a shining example of hospitality at its best.

"Great location"
Just returned from a 2 night break at Premier Inn, Shrewsbury. The hotel location is a short walk from the train station and well positioned for Shrewsbury town and local attractions.
I have stayed at this hotel a few times over the last couple of years however, on this occasion, I noticed that staff numbers seem now very thin on the ground. There are two automated booking in screens and only reception desk with one staff member! This meant that there were long queues at the reception desk at check in time, customers preferring to deal with a receptionist face to face.
Staff are extremely hardworking and some appear to have to take on various roles…..all at the same time! The hotel manager, Shannon, has a very professional manner and is extremely efficient. Her customer service is truly exemplary. She made our stay special.
The breakfast was lovely and Lindsey was very friendly, approachable and hardworking.

"Good location, nice staff - but terrible cleaning policy and poor communications"
The Premier Plus rooms are large, quiet and comfortable - and we had a pretty nice view of the Severn from our 4th floor window. The staff were friendly and did their best.
Initial impressions before arrival were not encouraging: there was no response to an email query sent a few days before we arrived despite the auto response saying they'd get back) . Ditto a phone call the day before - just a recorded message saying there was no one available (and the phone then cut off!)
My main gripe is the terrible cleaning policy even when requested. No fresh tea mugs, no replacement toilet roll (see the low quality remnant we were left with for our last day). This is NOT acceptable for a 3 day stay. An apologetic member of staff explained that it’s only fresh towels provided and bins emptied - nothing else.
We did not have this experience in Worcester or Colchester PP rooms where the beds were made, fresh cups supplied, wash basin wiped round, and toilet roll replenished - we even received daily extra chocolates!
On our last morning there was no yoghurt at breakfast (they were apparently waiting for a delivery). This was disappointing because, due to food allergies, fruit salad and yoghurt is my normal breakfast (rather than the cooked options) and I left hungry.
In future, we'll only book Premier Plus (PP) rooms for one night stays. Air BnB or other hotels will be a better choice for longer stays.

"Dissapointing damp rooms"
Nice location, quite close to the station and chargeable car park right behind. We didn't eat in the hotel as there are loads of really good value and quality restaurants in Shrewsbury.
Our problems was a really damp smelling room and the bathroom fan not working. Also, none of the windows in the hotel open, so it really isn't easy to get air into the rooms. We reported on our first morning as all the bedding smelled (and on returning home needed to wash all our clothes due to the damp smell). Unfortunately , they couldn't move us as the hotel was full.
We applied on line for the Premier Inn Good Night guarantee refund as advised by reception staff, but customer services said there was no proof of the issues (hotel said they had no record of us complaining). Fortunately, we had a note left by maintenance staff apologising for the issues, so 5 phone calls later we got a 20% refund. Not what the Good Night guarantee or customer services said (full refund).
I would avoid.
