"Slow Service in Bar and Restaurant but short-staffed - comfortable hotel otherwise."
The rooms were great and the team were friendly and polite. However they seemed massively understaffed. Reception was often unmanned. One poor girl, Tia, seemed to be running around doing everything in the evenings - the bar by herself and waiting and clearing tables. First morning we had to wait half an hour for the cooked breakfast to appear and often had to ask for things like butter, orange juice. Again, seemed to be just one lad trying to keep on top of everything. Premier Inn management you need more staff! Someone give Tia a raise - she looked like she might cry and/or drop at one point.
"Great place to stay when visiting York especially if you want a comfortable hotel at a fair price."
This hotel looks a bit basic from the outside but gives the usual high standards of most Premier Inns that I’ve visited. The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful and the room was spacious with very comfortable beds. We had a slight problem with the rooms’ television but the reception staff were terrific and sorted the problem out immediately. Our only very slight disappointment was with the breakfast menu as there was a pretty limited selection of fruit and although croissants were on offer each day there were no danish pastries. All in all we would recommend this hotel as it’s very good value for money , and with it being only around a fifteen minute walk from the centre of York it’s in a really good location.
"Premier Inn have got greedy..."
So the positives - it is a nice location 5 min walk from the train station. I'd think twice about taking a car, as the shared carpark is tiny and $15 a night ... My room was clean. The hotel was nearly £200 a night (the races were on) this was without breakfast. My gripe is they didnt have enough staff on and it was carnage late morning. There were a queue of people just trying to leave luggage, people trying to check in for the extra charge early checkin and some of us just trying to get our key card re-set. And there was one harrassed member of staff dealing with this immense queue. People were getting cross and stroppy. It's not fair on the staff, and why just one person on. I'd be cross if I'd paid extra for an early checkin and had to wait ages. The instant check in wasnt working. Given we were all paying nearly £200 a person not having additional staff on - to even take bags is so shoddy. They could have paid their wage just out of my extra charges. 3 nights and no room refresh unless you asked - but it's too busy, and don;t even think of telephoning in advance as no one ever answers the phone. I feel for the staff - but Premier Inn is losing the customer satisfaction. Recently I got a MalMaison room for less. They've gone too far.
"Mill Mount school reunion"
We were treated to a one off buffet lunch for our school reunion. The service was excellent and non evasive. We were able to chat to our friends and have glasses and cups cleared away discreetly.
"Great staff"
Excellent service from the staff when we met for a school reunion. The buffet was kept well topped up and it was the perfect venue
