"Terrible"
Terrible experience lifts were broke. My disabled husband asked for lower floor.we got room on ground floor. When we went room pass key didnt work back and forwards to reception. Got in room via staff pas key. Then told that we were told we couldnt stay in the room because we woul get locked out so moved to another ground floor room. The room was too hot so opened window and noticed staff outside our room smoking. When we checked out I notice £100 charge from premier inn for smoking.phoned manager and he was totally unreasonably saying fag ash on windowsill it certainly wasnt off us. I asked for evidence which hasnt being provided.

"Not the best Premier Inn"
While our room was clean and comfortable and everything worked as it should, we were surprised that nobody was in reception to welcome us and explain what to do. Nevertheless, we checked ourselves in at the machine without assistance.
Restaurant service left a lot to be desired. We made the table reservation with a very capable young blonde-haired woman but in the evening, the server didn't seem to know what day it was, let alone remember that we had been left waiting to place our order. Fortuitously, after about 20 minutes, the blonde-haired woman re-appeared and the server returned to take our order. We seemed to be taken to a specific table (the best ones by the window having been cordoned off) but no one had 'sanitised' it following the previous user.
The food was good so full marks to the kitchen but the promised compensation was not available when we came to pay the bill, about an hour after it was offered. Not a restaurant I would return to.
At breakfast, we are used to staff showing clients to tables as they have a better idea of the availability of vacant tables. Staff were not doing this, so clients were left to find their own tables not knowing whether they were occupied or not.
Tables were again not being cleared down following use. Breakfast items were not being replenished when needed. The lid of a jug of milk was not secure and fell into clients' cereal bowls. Staff were not fixing this nor clearing up the subsequent debris on the floor.

"Premier Inn scores highly on staff and decor but falls short on the absence of a lift"
I enjoyed my experience at the Premier Inn on many levels but not all. On the positive side, the staff were very helpful at all times and helped with the luggage to my room upon arrival and departure. The Premier Plus room was well prepared and clean, the heating system was effective and the windows opened on a retainer to allow fresh air to circulate. I was allocated a room to the rear of the hotel and there was no noise to disturb sleep but the front of the hotel was on a busy main road and there may have been road noise. I asked for the room to be serviced (I was there for 3 nights) and it was very clear that this had been done. The public areas were very clean and well maintained.
The restaurant is integrated within the hotel and this area was also clean and well looked after. The staff were again very helpful and the service was generally prompt, although on one occasion when there were a number of tables in use the staff struggled to cope with the number of orders. Premier Inn seems to have changed their focus when it comes to the range and quality of their restaurant menu. Both range and quality has improved significantly, for example Sea Bass was available.
The down side was that (at time of writing - June 2026) the hotel lift was out of action and had been, so I understand, since March. Guests were warned in advance of the issue but clearly some guests were having real difficulty in climbing the stairs.

"Disappointed"
I often stay at Premier Inns but I do feel from this experience that standards may be slipping. The lifts were out of order but we were warned about this before our stay which is fair enough. The self check in didn't work and despite being given a room number the key cards would not open the room door. When I went for help to reception, no one was there and the buzzer on the desk which said "call for assistance" was not working. I have to knock on a door that said staff only to get the required help. The aircon was not working in our room and we had to call reception about that. They couldn't fix it so we had to change rooms. In the morning we discovered there was only 1 bath towel in the room, another call to reception was required. Breakfast was ok apart from the mushrooms which were dry and shrivelled both mornings. The outside of the hotel needs a lick of paint and the broken notice board could do with being removed or replaced. A shame really. I will continue to use Premier Inns for now but if this continues to be the situation during stays I will consider going elsewhere.

"Good location"
We always stay here when we come to York. Excellent location, very close to the train station and only a short walk into the centre.
The staff were lovely, unfortunately there weren't many of them so sometimes the wait at the was a little bit longer than we would have liked. A special mention for Phil who was friendly and professional.
