"Poor Staff"
Brand new Premier Inn (Thirsk) you would think they would put a couple of USB in the sockets so you can charge you phone as it is 2025, but alas no, the staff are scruffy both evening and morning, shirts un ironed and hanging out of the trousers, guy in the evening was mumbling and really couldn’t be arsed 24/06/25
"Great location but feel the hotel is not as good as it used to be"
We were made aware in advance that there was ongoing building works taking place so we were expecting to hear some building works noise but gratefully we didn’t even though we were right next to it. We were disappointed with the continental breakfast option, definitely much more reduced than in previous visits to the hotel. Staff really approachable except for one who appeared to be put out when I asked for clean towels.
"Great hotel, shame about the blackout curtains"
We chose this hotel as we were visiting York and the surrounding areas and wanted somewhere quiet to stay. The hotel has air con and a free car park and is in a quiet location, they are the reasons that we chose this particular premier inn. The beds were comfortable and the family room was a good size. The hotel was quiet and we stayed on a Sunday night during the bank holiday weekend. The main issue for me was the blackout curtains, they had quite a few holes in and the curtains didn't fully cover the window. A lot of light came into the room, which meant that I didn't sleep well as I need a very dark room to sleep. My family did sleep well, as the light isn't an issue to them. I'd say bring a sleeping mask, I'd forgotten mine. The bathroom ceiling had plaster peeling off, so that needed refreshing. I'd like to add that it would be nice if premier inn had premium family rooms, I'd pay the extra. Overall, the hotel was fine, it was quiet due to the location, so good for families. The parking is a plus at this hotel.
"Room for improvements"
We stayed for three nights in a standard room which had air con (that turned itself off during the night ) but no facility to open the window and let in fresh air which meant the room was often stuffy and no doubt contributed to my wife getting a sore throat, the rooms above on the second floor were allocated to the premier plus, having wooden floors we could here guests walking around. The bathrooms in Premier hotels have now become a lottery as to which type you will get. some have shower trays with overhead and hand set others have just the overhead, some have a bath with both ,some have a bath with just the overhead, some have glass sides others have a shower curtain, this is just on the standard, not premier plus rooms, once we had to move to a vacant room next door due to a toilet which stopped flushing (not at this premier inn )and that had a different shower set up to the one he had to vacate, surely rooms that close have upgrades at the same time ?? The baths are quite deep and may be an issue for those with mobility issues having to step into them The water from the sink would never get warm so a shave would necessitate boiling the kettle then watching the water drain away down the plug hole We chose not to eat at the hotel so can’t comment on the food, we had no contact with staff apart from check in which was friendly and efficient , there is building work going on but still enough parking spaces, the walk into town is about 20-25 minutes and is flat and well lit, finally the free WiFi is very slow
"A snip at £72.00"
We arrived quite late and were worried that we may have a problem with parking as the hotel had sent us an email to say they were having work done and had lost some of the car park. As it turned out it was not a problem and there was plenty of spaces. At check in the young man couldn’t find the room keys but Roseanne came to the rescue and all was well. We had booked a standard room at £72 but ended up in a Premier plus room. Lovely room, very clean and light. Buffet breakfast was plentiful and Roseanne was now at breakfast. Roseanne told us she left at 11.00pm and was back in at 7.00am. Constantly on the go, seating people and clearing tables, a hard worker and a true ambassador for Premier Inns. Well done Roseanne and thank you. Whenever possible we always stay at Premier Inns, you know what you are going to get. We’ve never had a bad experience yet. Highly recommended.
