Catterick Garrison hotel

Excellent hotel with friendly staff and a very comfortable bed. We had a very good nights sleep there. The Social Restaurant served delicious food which was piping hot.

I paid extra for a Plus Room, and it was a complete waste of money. On Friday night, I went to the bar at 10:40 only to be told it was closed, despite the lights still being on, the door open, and three staff members chatting at reception. The coffee machine in the room didn’t work properly—the water was only lukewarm and there were no instructions provided. Even after adding boiling water, it made no difference. A manager came to assist but was also unable to get it working. Our room was on the ground floor overlooking a very busy car park, which meant we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. This left us with no natural light while getting ready. While the Plus Rooms include sockets by the bed, the shelf space is extremely limited. In fact, the standard rooms appear to offer better storage, with a cube unit providing two shelves. There was also only a tiny shelf under the TV—no desk at all, which was very inconvenient. Overall, this upgrade did not justify the cost, and I would not choose a Plus Room again.

Premier Inn, Catterick Garrison Parking was great when we arrived – plenty of space. The hotel looked nice from the outside, a tall, solid building. Check-in was straightforward, though I was asked to fill out a form with who I was staying with and their nationality. The way they emphasised nationality felt a bit strange – never been asked that at a Premier Inn before, even though I’ve stayed at a few. We booked a family room for myself, my fiancé, and our toddler, a good five days in advance, so we were disappointed with how the room turned out. It felt pretty worn out – worn carpets, rusty taps, lots of cracks, marks, and even drawings on the walls. We requested one separate bed for our child but ended up with two extra singles instead, which made the room extremely cramped. The floorboards were so creaky that every move was loud; I had to tiptoe like a ninja to avoid waking our toddler. Someone above must have been training for the Olympics – running around at 1 AM and again at 7 AM. Not exactly relaxing. Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss, with the signal dropping on and off, but the TV worked perfectly. I also liked being on the first floor – easy access and convenient. Overall, the rooms really need a revamp and standards could be improved, but the location is great.
