"Upgrade and early check in don't bother"
So where do I even start…
Me and my partner booked this hotel for one night after going to a local gig. We’d actually stayed at the Premier Inn the night before because this hotel had no availability, and looking back I wish we’d just stayed there again.
The day before check-in I decided to upgrade us to a “Premier Plus” room for an extra £45 as a bit of a treat for us both. One of the main reasons was the air conditioning and the whole “guaranteed good night’s sleep” thing they advertise.
We arrived on a really hot day and also paid another £15 for early check-in. At first everything seemed fine. We turned the air con on before heading out and thought the room would be nice and cool when we got back.
When we came back later the room was absolutely roasting. Turns out the air con had switched itself onto HEAT and was sat at 23 degrees.
I went down to reception and they apologised and said they’d reset it. They also said they didn’t know why it had changed itself over to heating mode. Fair enough, these things happen, so we went out for the evening.
But when we got back after our night out, it had happened AGAIN. The room was back on heat. So once again I had to go down to reception in the middle of the night to explain that this was now the second time.
They reset it again, but then at around 4am we woke up boiling hot because somehow it had switched itself back yet again. At that point I couldn’t sleep properly at all because the room was just too warm and stuffy.
What annoyed me most is we specifically paid extra for the upgraded room to be more comfortable and actually enjoy our stay together, but instead we spent half the night dealing with the heating.
I mentioned all this at checkout and later contacted customer services asking about their sleep guarantee. After loads of emails back and forth they offered me £35 goodwill compensation.
Considering the room was over £120, plus the £45 upgrade and £15 early check-in, I honestly thought £35 was pretty poor.
Safe to say we won’t be returning.

"Great beds, food varies too much"
We use Premier Inns a lot because their beds are so good, however the quality of the food varies in their attached restaurant/pubs
They are convenient because they are next door to the hotels and usually easier to use than finding places near events we are attending.
As I said the standard varies. Recently in Ipswich the reception area was really well laid out and stocked, and the next door restaurant was pretty cook, especially the buffet breakfast which was hot, with fried eggs that were not like lumps of rubber and hot baked beans.
In Norwich the evening meal was fine, the breakfast less so, with a queue at the toast machine because everything needed putting through twice, fried eggs like vulcanised rubber and beans that were allowed to go tepid, when they could simple have been reheated or have a better system of keeping them warm. It's the little things that these places seem to forget.
Probably continue to use the hotels because of the beds, but unlikely to pay Nearly £60 for the meal deal. More tempted to pay £80-£100 in a proper restaurant and just go out for breakfast.

"Run down"
Stayed at the premier inn in Norwich and I was satisfied with the check in process. However the problems came when we went to the room. Immediately we felt the room was run down. Then upon further inspection I found quite a few issues. Stains on the curtains. The toilet was dirty, especially around the U bend. Then trying to actually flush the toilet was an issue. Having to press the flush 3/4 times to get a decent flush. Overall it was definitely not worth spending over £100 for the night and not the experience we expected.

"Visit to Norwich"
Hotels in the great location just opposite the railway station, Good location for Football ground, bars & restaurants.
Rooms are clean & comfortable unfortunately the TV didn't work very well poor signal. Staff are helpful and polite the hard working room staff aways say good morning with a smile(Thank you). Unfortunately the restaurant needs a good refurbishment, furniture and flooring stained & doesn't look very nice. New patio furniture and bins emptying every day outside would be good too.

"A better than expected experience"
A quick room for an overnight stay after a gig. Clean room, absolutely amazing staff, friendly and accomodating. Shell on reception was a dream. Really lovely friendly woman.
