"Pleasant stay"
Lovely stay in comfortable rooms. Staff are lovely and the dining experience for breakfast and dinner was great for kids .....cocktails were good also! My only criticism is rooms badly need air con as they became stifling in spite of having fans and the availability for breakfast was short in spite of us attempting to pre book and pay.
"Madness at Dreamland."
We chose this place last minute for a convenient place to stay visiting Dreamland. After reading some reviews I was unsure about booking but because I had left it so late I couldn’t really be too choosy. However I can’t complain about anything. The room was fine and the location is great for Dreamland. The breakfast was a reasonable price and pretty good for a buffet.
"Del Boy and Margate: great hotel for location"
Took the grandkids for a few days at seaside, margate being my childhood haunt. Location wise you can’t beat it. The railway station is next door, more on that below, and the beach is literally just across the road. All the attractions, dreamland, various eating places can be easily walked to within 10 mins. Parking is fine though if the hotel was full I wonder if there would be sufficient space. The main parking area is not right in front of the hotel as it appears to be upon arrival, but you drive around to your right and reception, where it’s guest parking only. At the front it’s a free for all but paying. Rooms are fine, clean, beds very comfortable. The hotel is in two blocks, the first houses “reception” and the bar/restaurant (must book can’t just walk in for (expensive) food) the second block opposite is literally a stones throw away from the railway station and the trains can be seen coming in,perfect for trainspotters! Despite the proximity, it was very well soundproofed and even at night it sounded more like the distant soft rumbling of thunder and wouldn’t wake a reasonable sleeper. No immediate spare toilet paper (sheets no rolls) plenty of towels. Tv was ok but quite a few channels the reception was very bad. WiFi is free but like most things you get what you (don’t) pay for, so ok for browsing or checking emails but forget Netflix or prime (download first then able to watch) though you can pay extra for better quality, but as I didn’t I can’t comment. The sound proofing of the floor unlike the windows and train noise, was less than adequate with each footstep of the room above you, could be heard and counted! We had two rooms and they were both the same, unless nelly the elephant was staying and clumping about! The worst thing was the heat as the windows don’t open. Many reviews mention this and talk about fans but there were no ceiling fans unless they are in the main reception block, we were in the block nearest the trains. There was allegedly an ac control on the wall, I say allegedly as it would not decrease below 22, only up. I didn’t bother reception with the issue, as we were only there for three days and weather was not climate change enhanced, so I don’t know whether it’s all fixed at that temp or we were unlucky but on those rare really hot days you would be sweating and not though activity! You get a kettle and a paltry amount of tea/coffee but I assume you can get more at reception (we bring our own) there was however a definite odd taste to the water and I don’t know whether the fluoride had gone overtime, but wasn’t too pleasant. You need the card key for entry to the room, lights and the external door from outside. No drawers apart from one small one underneath a hanging bar for a few clothes. I found check in odd. I was told I could check in on line to speed up our arrival, but at just before 3pm there was a long line and no separate ones for people who had checked in on line. There was a longish delay, there were only two machines to check in on and there was one member of staff explaining what to do at the machine. When I got to the top of the Q I was told to go to the bar as I had checked in on line but the rep, while pleasant took an inordinate amount of time to deal with the reservation. I fail to see what is the point of having machines apart from getting the customer to do the physical work of checking in, yet while other chains eg travelodge have both, Premier seem insistent on only allowing you to check in via these machines even though there is a human being standing right by them who could just as easily have check you in themselves. Premier still has to pay these people to stand by the machines so why don’t they just have a proper check in desk which would move a lot quicker!! Overall top spot for location, rooms ok but potentially you get a free sauna, service eg check in, is trying to be AI but is more like Faulty Towers on steroids! But as you’re going to Margate to enjoy the weather (possibly) beach and all the amusements, you can probably put up with the downsides and would recommend for location, location, location!
"Good location for Dreamland"
Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, a fan was provided. No walk in shower in our room, just a shower over the bath. Good seaview. Breakfast could have been better.
"Go elsewhere!"
Unfortunately falls well below the expected standard of a Premier Inn. Booked a family room - 2 adults, 1 child - arrived to see they hadn't bothered to make up the sofa bed, or even leave bedding for us to do so ourselves. There was stale water left in the kettle, mould on the ceiling in the bathroom, plug in sink could not be removed. Overall hugely disappointing and very overpriced. Plenty parking spaces, but otherwise give it a miss.
