Douglas (Isle of Man) hotel

Location was great in the city centre close to shops, bus routes and the sea terminal. Are visit today was for the breakfast. The restaurant was busy when we arrive and one member of staff on the floor who addressed us straight away. Then cleared the table for us you sit at. The atmosphere in the restaurant was friendly and happy. The breakfast was a great value as the 2 kids eat free with an adult. The restaurant area was clean and tidy. As was the toilets. The staff member was doing his best to clear tables and helping customers with carrying plates to their tables nothing seemed too much for him even though he was rushed off his feet.

We have just returned from this hotel. We picked this hotel as my wife is disabled and they have a lift to all floors. Also they have a bar and the menus looked ok, when we arrived we were told they couldn’t serve any alcoholic drinks as the only member of staff that had a licence was not on duty until Friday, we were also told that we could not bring any alcohol into the dining area as this is against the law! So for four. days we ate and drank out which was against the idea of this holiday….well we managed a meal and a drink in the bar on Friday and Saturday which was fine and the meal was very good but on the Sunday after the day out we went back to the hotel for a meal and a drink only to be told the kitchen was closed…absolutely no warning just no meals! Now my point here is this is no new thing it’s been going on for weeks. The other problem was the fact that we had paid nearly £900 for the week here but they do not clean you room or replenish toilet rolls or towels unless you ask someone before twelve o’clock, now that sounds ok until you go to reception and get someone to answer the buzzer, you are looking at at least a twenty minute wait while staff in the restaurant just look at you. The bed was not up to the usual premier standards it was very uncomfortable and hard.the bathroom floor was dirty and the tv had a mind of its own and waking us up in the night by switching itself on, the staff were told of this on day two! Unfortunately I will never use premier inn again as these problems have ruined an old couples holiday in the Isle of Man! We booked Premier inn as we have used them many times in the past and not really had any problems but then again it was only for odd nights here and there with hindsight we could have got much better value elsewhere. On the plus side the location is great right in the centre of Douglas.

Had such lovely breakfast and filled me up for the day

Arrived on our bike off the Ferry at about 14.15. Met at reception by a lovely man who let us store our bag until check in was open. Got back around 17.30, checked in without a hitch, got to allocated room, to find it very clean with everything we needed. Location is perfect, parking in Shaw’s Brow multi storey is free from 19.00 Friday night until 7.00 on Monday morning, about a 3 minute walk away. Staff are great, hotel is very clean and comfortable. Only issue we had was, Sunday evening, when children were running up and down the corridor, stomping and knocking on the walls. Would not normally be something I would highlight, but we had a 4.30 alarm to get to the ferry for a 5.45 sailing. Not much sleep had, and a long motorcycle ride ahead. No parents or staff around to stop the disturbance, so made do but tired heading home Would go back but not in the peak holiday season

Central location and the staff were friendly. Room as expected, bed comfy. There is no safe, wardrobe (except for a few hangers) or tissues, no problem for our stay. They did have Bayliss & Harding shower gel and handwash though, which was nice. I did notice (on checking out day, thankfully) that there were po*p stains on the toilet cabin, near to the flush button, yuck. Which did make me feel a bit sick and I would have asked for it to be cleaned properly if I wasn't checking out. Based on that lasting and final impression I have dropped one star.
