Welwyn Garden City hotel

Room, OK. Check-in, adequate. Breakfasts - Amateurish and completely chaotic. If it was an episode of Fawlty Towers it would have been funny. They had run out of cutlery, run out of clean plates, run out of eggs, bacon, hash browns and Black putting...... which they didn't restock because they were focussing on cutting up mushrooms. This is the second time I've been here since they changed their 'catering' arrangements many many months ago and they still haven't sorted themselves out. ALSO: There was no notification when we booked or when we arrived that they were ripping up a chunk of the carpark and would have heavy machinery on site blocking the entrance and exit AT 8:30 IN THE MORNING !!! Having survived a couple of days of this lamentably badly run hotel, on leaving we weren't even given a grunt of acknowledgement from the reception staff. I won't give it a 1 star rating because it was clean and everything in the room worked and it would have been 3 or 4 star if the catering was even remotely properly staffed.... but it wasn't - so between the food and the blocked car park, 2* seems appropriate.

Checking in on the screen was impersonal and slow. A member of staff came to the front desk and did not acknowledge us at all. The banisters of the stair well were filthy. Stains on the banisters.On entering the room, i realised the room was facing the railway. No mention of this in your description. I went down to reception and the girl insisted that our room was not facing the railway ( room 122) . Terrible customer service. Explained i was a light sleeper and would like to move rooms. Again, she said we were not facing the railway. I left as she was not listening to us. The curtain was hanging off the hinge. Dirty cups. The bathroom skirting board was so dirty, it is actually now stuck on with a sticky residue. The trains kept me awake. The room was hot and we could not control the temperature. The upstairs people woke us at 6 with their tv, i could hear their conversation for 2 hours until they left for breakfast. Roadworks going on in the carpark and the original pub was closed. Drilling happening , which we were not made aware of. Overall a very disappointing visit. 2 rooms for 2 days, i wish i had paid more to go else where.....

Room smelt overwhelmingly of mould, damp and stale cigarette smoke (non-smoking room apparently). Tired decor, chipped furniture, bathroom fittings old and dilapidated. Awful. Complete rip off for the price.

I will definitely stay here again. I was here for two night The rooms were so clean the bed was very comfortable. The staff were all so nice helpful and friendly. The restaurant menu had a excellent range of choice I have stayed in a few premier inn but this was definitely the best one

Due to accessibility issues, we had asked for a room with a walk in shower when we booked but on arrival discovered we had been allocated one with the shower over the bath. The girl on reception was very pleasant and helpful and switched us to a suitable room.  The room was fairly clean but a sock from previous occupants had been left lying on the floor beside the chair. The grouting and shower surround were grubby. The room overlooked the car park and unfortunately was quite noisy on the first  night (Saturday)- we were kept awake by people talking loudly and slamming car doors. The next night (Sunday) it was quiet. The restaurant was small, quite narrow and noisy. The staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. After stating we would like continental breakfast at the desk, the young man immediately asked if we wanted continental or full English. The non English speaking chef struggled to understand my husband when he asked for porridge and thought he'd asked for poached eggs! My husband had to repeat himself several times and shockingly the chef didn't seem to know how to make it -we heard another member of staff telling him how to prepare it. A good continental selection but the bread was cheap, thin and tasteless. We encountered a lovely member of the domestic staff in the corridor who was very friendly and helpful and assisted us with spare towels.
