London Elstree / Borehamwood hotel

Booked 2 rooms with a/c. Paid extra as during the heat wave. On arrival waited for a member of staff to allocate keys as the self-check in didn’t find our booking. About 10 minutes later 2 rooms were allocated on the 6th floor. The 2 lifts are ridiculously slow. Appeared to stop on every floor going up and down, even though no one had got in or out. Watched lots of guests opt to take the stairs. Once into the rooms, the stuffiness was apparent, and a portable floor fan was in each room. The air conditioning DID NOT WORK in either room and obviously acknowledged by staff with the fan in place already for previous guests. Down the silly lift again to speak to reception. This was about 5pm. Eventually allocated 1 room but the second room wasn’t cleaned yet to move bags into. Sigh. More waiting. Anyway, the a/c worked fine in the new rooms. So glad, as at breakfast (£10.99/adult…rubbery eggs lol) overheard other guests sweltering and unable to sleep. Parking eye…park within the lines! Drivers that cross the line may be fined according to the signage. Make it difficult for other cars to park and essentially taking 2 spots. On the Saturday night returning (World Cup footie) there was 1 remaining spot…watched another car opt to park elsewhere outside, then we manoeuvred in but had to exit from the passenger side. It’s a £10.80 day rate with in and out access. No barrier. Just pay on departure. 1* did sleep

Room was good, comfy bed as usual, with great air con, very welcome in the heat! Paid for 4 adult unlimited breakfasts. There was no hot food available at all, very very little continental breakfast available (2 pancakes, 1 crumpet, no bread, some cereals but no milk etc etc). No bowls for cereals though, no cups for teas or coffees. The one single staff member was doing her best, but she was let down by your company. If there were staffing issues because of illness or no show(s) it should not be left down to one person to run the entirety of the customer facing side of breakfast. Will not be booking breakfasts if I stay at Premier Inn again, as its too much of an unknown what you're going to get, may as well as go and get a McDonald's breakfast for considerably less money.

Room was fine and had air conditioning, bed very comfortable. Our key card couldn't get activated so we had to get staff to let us into our room. We were on the 5th floor and the lift stops at every floor even if no one has pressed the button and no one is waiting in that floor, so it takes a very long time. There are no plug sockets by the bed. We were only given one towel between two.

The staff here deserve the highest accolade for their commitment to their guests. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and in the face of some difficult guests they always seem highly professional at all times Premier inn are exceptionally lucky to have them. Amazing, welcoming and caring people that deserve more support from management from what I see. 5 stars thoroughly deserved!!! Well done team!

Breakfast was excellent and the staff was very friendly and helpful
