"PERFECT LOCATION FOR SUMMER SESSIONS."
Another wonderful stay at a Premier Inn. This time it was Cumberland Place in Southampton. Perfect location for a concert at Southampton Guildhall Gardens. Staff all very welcoming, especially the young barman George, who was very helpful by bringing the drinks to the table, due to me having an injury to my foot, and i would have spilt half of them while trying to carry them with my limp.đ¤Ł.Breakfast was amazing, apart from the sausages, which weren't to our taste as they were herby. But i guess they cater for what the majority of people like, but not our favourite. Apart from that, everything was spot on as per usual. Cumberland Place is definitely one i will return to when visiting Southampton.

"Satisfactory"
The hotel is within walking distance of Southampton Central Station (15 minutes) and the cruise ship pier (25 minutes). The location is exceptional as is the hotel staff. As for the actual hotel, itâs a bit tired and worn out in places. Definitely could use a refurbishment from top to bottom. I will say itâs quiet and the bed and linens are good. There is a restaurant/bar onsite which provides a great buffet breakfast for a small additional cost. The restaurant staff were highly aware of gluten free options and made great suggestions which get lots of kudos. For one night it did the trick but staying longer wouldnât be an option for me.

"Decent for the money but Southampton is a DUMP"
Iâve got to admit Iâd never visit Southampton again itâs a dump. However, the hotel was well located, spacious, paid parking to the rear, decent rooms and beds and a peaceful quiet night.
Breakfast was really good. Guinness in the bar was better than the terrible bars nearby, and the staff were very good
George in the bar was a gentleman.
Avoid Southampton if you can but if not this is a decent hotel,

"Avoid - smelly room 311"
I "checked in" on 10 June 2026 and was allocated room 311. Upon entering, I noticed a really unpleasant damp smell in the room.
I raised the issue with Reception. They sprayed the room which made little difference upon my return. In short, the damp unpleasant smell persisted for the duration of my stay. I could even smell it on my clothes when I left.
Apparently, the smell relates to remedial work on the carpets but that is no new carpet smell. It smells damp possibly from a flood or drainage defect and the building is still drying out. By the way, the window in the room could not be opened, as itâs a sealed air-conditioned room. Thereâs simply no getting away from the smell in the room.
I requested another room due to the persistence of the smell but was informed the hotel was fully booked & no other rooms were available. I also asked if any other Premier Inn within the Southampton area could be an option, but was told they were all fully booked.
I have had the most unpleasant stay and suggest you avoid room 311 until this matter is resolved. Based upon other reviews this is not an isolated issue and it may apply to other rooms!
