"Stay with friends"
Stayed here for two nights with friends. We did have an issue with the shower and the manager changed our room straight away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very tasty and plenty of it. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel. It's very central and only about a three minute walk to King's Cross tube station
"Hopelessly understaffed, but hardworking and friendly team!"
Really friendly and helpful staff doing their best in difficult conditions. The hotel was hopelessly understaffed, so the team there was working really hard under terrible pressure. There were only two staff available in the restaurant which I’d guess had at least 100 covers. They didn’t stand a chance! There’s a large bar area, but again only one member of staff available. I felt so sorry for them. We’d booked a table for dinner at 7pm, but when we got there on time, were asked if we could come back 20 mins later. We did and finally managed to order our food just before 8pm. To make their life easier, I went back to the bar to order some drinks, rather than ordering at the table. The waiter came to check with us at 8.15 if we’d had our food - we hadn’t, but the kitchen team were insisting we had. He was very apologetic, poor chap. Hotel was well presented. Public areas were actually very nicely decorated. Room was good, although the toilet seat was broken and we only had one towel for the two of us. Easily sorted at reception, but didn’t help with our overall impression. I’m normally a big fan of Premier Inn. They usually get the basics right, which makes them great value, but they were well off par on this occasion. To their credit, all the staff we encountered were unfalteringly polite, but were being let down by Premier Inn itself with the very evident level of understaffing. On a plus point, this is really well located for the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras.
"Mixed experience but great for St Pancras"
We visited this hotel twice in a week on non-consecutive nights and had quite different experiences. On our first stay we found the staff were not particularly helpful or knowledgeable and the checking in system is not as efficient as it used to be with no separate check in desk. Also, be warned early check in must be pre booked which wasn’t the case last time we visited. You can still leave bags though, which is good. We stayed in a first floor room and although the triple glazing was very effective, there was a constant low hum in the room that wasn’t related to the air conditioning. The twin room was good, spacious and with comfortable beds. I’m not a fan of rainfall showers though, so that wasn’t ideal. Our second stay was in a room in the same location but a couple of floors above. For some reason, the triple glazing didn’t seem as effective there (and it is on a busy road) but the staff we encountered were much better; friendly and helpful. In general, this hotel is now a much better bet than the Euston one a few minutes down the road (which is very tired) and the location couldn’t be better for St Pancras station, which is a big bonus.
"Nice location for our needs"
This hotel is in a great location to St. Pancreas. We were a 4 min walk to the station the morning we left. Check in is quick and easy (automated in the hotel). For being right on the street side it was relatively quiet. The room was very clean and comfortable. Water in the shower was HOT! In between two tube stations so it is actually a good location for getting around.
"The self service checkout of hotels"
There’s nothing overly bad about the hotel but it’s just not very good. The location is the most positive aspect. It’s across from Kings Cross St. Pancras Station and is a 10 minute walk to Euston Station, close to places of interest, surrounded by cafes and restaurants, local amenities (supermarkets, laundromats etc) and the Bloomsbury area is absolutely beautiful. The room was clean, quiet and a decent size. The said, the room lacks some really basic amenities. No safe (so I had to padlock my passport in my backpack), no mini fridge (so I could even buy some basics for breakfast) and no phone in the room. This meant that any time I needed something (fresh towels, room cleaned) I had to go down to reception and most of the time there was no one there. I also had a very frustrating experience with room cleaning where I went by reception one evening and asked for it to be cleaned the next day. The attendant said it was fine, took my room number and typed something into the computer. I arrived back in the late afternoon to find it hadn’t been cleaned and where I trekked back to reception, the woman said it hadn’t been cleaned because I needed to request it be cleaned on the day before 12pm. I said the person the day prior didn’t tell me that and she apologised. I then asked if my room could be cleaned and you guessed it…I was told to come back the next day because it was after 5pm! The inefficiency of this process is one thing but given there is no way to contact reception without having to traipse down to the first floor every time just pushed it over the edge. Reception looks like a flea market. There are ironing boards, irons, coffee and tea and when I requested fresh towels (bare minimum here too - one towel, one hand towel) they just handed them over at reception. Given the number of hotels to choose from in London I would not be staying here again. And it wasn’t cheap either!
