London Kingston Upon Thames hotel

My initial disappointment began when I was dropped off at the hotel with great difficulty. There is no place for a can to stop if you have luggage in front of the hotel unless across the road. Nowhere on Premier Inn Kingston’s website does it say the reception is not on ground floor as is usually expected of hotels but on first floor behind fire exit doors. I had luggage as I had just returned from overseas travel and it was a nightmare lugging it all with me and manoeuvring through doors to reception and then from reception to my room on the second floor. I had 3 suitcases so you can imagine my difficulty. Icing on the cake was housekeeping trolley had taken up more than half the corridor which added to an already tricky situation for me. Once I entered the room, all seemed just fine at first glance. I walked over to the window and noticed the curtains were dirty. Some kind of liquid was on them and I decided I won’t touch the curtains with my bare hands. Next, the TV resolution was so dull it seemed I was watching ancient TV. I then went to the bathroom & noticed the sink was blocked with standing water. I called reception from my mobile but no one answered so I went down to reception to complain about the blockage. I was told by staff that it is a swivel system so I can swivel it and water will drain. I said I will not touch the old water so he came with me with some chopsticks and swivelled the plug. There were also no tissues in the room which I would have thought are a basic necessity. I had to ask for some napkins from the restaurant and then purchased my own tissues. The hot water situation in my bathroom was temperamental. It was either too hot or too cold. This is both in sink and shower. The shower-head had not been washed properly as there was a pinkish stain on it. From my understanding this can be dangerous as legionnaires can spread from dirty shower-heads. For all I know the pinkish stain was some kind of fungus. When showering, the pipes made such a clanging sound as if an alarm had gone off. It scared me at first but because there was no phone in my room I couldn’t call reception and enquire about it right away. I didn’t bother going to reception or trying to call and just dealt with the clanging for the 3 nights I was there. I usually stay at the Double Tree but as it was fully booked I was forced to seek local alternatives for my short stay. If I had a choice between the two hotels, I will still choose Double Tree unless there is no option.

Great experience , very helpful and lovely staff. The room was very clean and the hotel is located very close to the town centre.
