"Never again"
No air con, room stifling, dangerously hot. Fan provided was so noisy it prevented sleep. One hand towel in a double room. A double bed not a kingsize. Poor furniture. Staff were lovely.

"Only go if you like roasting alive"
The staff were nice. I have no issue with them. But the room was absolutely boiling. I would come back at around 2300, outside it would be nice and cool, inside would be like an oven. The only thing we were offered was a very weak fan. If ever there was a place that needs air con installed it is this place.

"If it's hot, don't go to this hotel. You WILL regret it."
It's a shame to have to leave such a poor review because the staff were great and overall it should have been a decent place to stay. The problem with heat goes WAY beyond them not having air conditioning, you're told that on the booking pages, but the much larger problem was that the place is very badly ventilated, trapping heat that kept the interior of the building much hotter than it was outside. 31 degrees in the bedroom at 2am in the morning is ludicrous, and the bathroom was so much hotter that I couldn't stay in there for long without feeling unwell. And I'm good with heat - I'd take a day in Singapore with no sunscreen over another night at this Premier Inn.
A single fan, screwed to the wall at the opposite side of the room from the head of the bed, is not close to enough to sort the issue, and what little relief it gave was completely undone the moment we opened the bathroom or corridor doors.
In the end I unscrewed it and moved it to the bedside table (without damaging it - I put it back when we left) and we just about managed to get a few hours sleep on each of the two nights.
The floor above ours was even hotter, and we were told that some of the cleaning staff had taken time off after working in that heat and becoming unwell.
A lack of air conditioning is one thing, but ventilation that poor is inexcusable. If this isn't sorted somebody is going to get very sick on a hot day, while the general lack of airflow is also going to lead to problems with damp, mould, and everything that comes with it.
Unless the weather is reliably cool, stay somewhere else.

"Negatives outweigh the positives"
Negatives outweighed the positives unfortunately. Stayed here during a 35c heatwave and windows would only open 1 inch, 1 fan but just pushed hot air round the room as windows do open fully, it was unbelievable, my husband contemplated going outside in middle of night just to cool down. No air conditioning unit in room and no extractor fan in bathroom. Looked at reviews after arriving and this has been going on for at least 12 months with no improvement by the sounds of it. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!! Great amazing location though within regards to food, entertainment for kids, & only a short taxi ride or bus ride into town.

"Nice, but seriously needed air conditioning"
I stayed in room 306 for three nights in the heatwave in June
Overall I rate it well, but my biggest issue, was most rooms were between 30-34 degrees at night and did not get cooler
Stayed above 30 all day too.
The fans were a nice touch, but not adequate for this type of weather
Whitbread make enough money for AC units to be installed at Purley
Clearly it’s a popular place for business, saw lots of work men staying here for various firms.
With the lack of A/C the least the hotel could have done was open up the breakfast room for the whole day
All that was needed was the space, The A/C and the basic tea/coffee/water facilities that would be available in the rooms ( this would have been a little extra cost to the hotel) but far better for customers
Comfort level.
Genuinely gob smacked no one thought of doing this.
This would have made such a positive difference to my stay.
This was extreme heat, which needed management to make an more extreme decision on keeping customers comfortable
I have worked for whitbreads in the past and this is something that should
Be taken higher.
I truly hope someone who reads this thinks my idea is a good one and with future heat waves to come in months and years ahead, actions my small but big difference suggestion.
