Torquay Harbour hotel

Hmmm - difficult to review this place. Visited before when it had just opened and were very impressed. This time was a different experience both good and bad. Good points - lovely clean Premier Plus room on the 5th floor. Initially they put is at the back of the hotel but we went back and asked if we could move to the front with a view. Moved us without a problem but with only a partial harbour view. During the time we were there no other rooms further along seemed to have customers. Manager said - you need to book early to get a sea view room - but how? There is no mechanism of the website to book a sea view room. Room itself was clean. Fridge had two bottles of water and we bought some milk for tea. Bathroom was cleanish. Possibly needed a deeper clean in the shower. Disappointing part - notice in the lift to say no meal service that evening which didn’t matter as we were eating out. However, went for breakfast on Tuesday morning and chef hadn’t turned up so no hot buffet. Offered a continental breakfast at a reduced cost but the cold buffet is not huge so we declined. Awaiting a refund to our card. Walked across the road to the Hilton which was £15 per person and just ok but nothing special. Today we checked out at 10am. Put cards in the box. Despite manager being nearby there was no thanks or hope you’ve had a good stay. Feeling that this is not one of the best Premier Inns unfortunately. We have recently stayed in London inn and one in Ringwood a couple of years ago which were excellent. Possibly won’t go back.

Arrived at 11am as paid for early check-in to find the previous guests still in the room as they do not check-out till 12pm. Then the room needs to be cleaned was promised a call when room ready but did not happen not able to check-in till 2.00pm one hour earlier we had travelled a long way so was looking forward to freshening up on arrival, so was very disappointing. The next day we requested our room be cleaned at 10am arrived back at 4pm to shower and change as had early dinner at a restaurant in the next town to find our room had not been cleaned no toilet rolls and towels still wet from the morning. Went to reception and was advised room was going to be cleaned up to 5pm we arrived back at 10pm and the room had not been done this was a Premier Room so very disappointed with everything we had gone away for a special birthday and wish we had booked the Hilton next door as could have got for the same price at time of booking.

The hotel was nice. Very good location for the town. However, When we got to the hotel at 3.15pm, we checked in on the system, but the room said not ready. We went to the reception and was given a key. We got to our room and unlocked the door but it was already occupied and someone was asleep in the bed. We were horrified after recent news articles about strangers getting into other peoples rooms. The staff didn’t seem overly concerned and just gave us a key card for another room. We didn’t feel very secure for the rest of our stay.

We stayed here for a night in a family room. The location is excellent, two minutes walk from the harbour. The room was perfect for a family of 4. A double and 2 singles. Clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money. All the staff were helpful and pleasant. Would recommend.

Lovely hotel, rooms are good. This is our second stay, and we will be booking for next next year too. Wonderful staff, they even remembered us from last year. Joe the lady manager never stops, she works so hard and always very pleasant. Joe front of house is also the same. Always a lovely smile and happy to help out with any questions. George the bar tender, works so hard too, always smiling and happy. Kirsty too, welcomes us into breakfast. Such a brilliant team. This is why we keep coming back. Just one thing we didn't like. Think he was the manager Deejay, told the staff not to talk to customers, very off hand and very cold personality. Made us feel uncomfortable.
