Barnstaple hotel

We booked a Premier Plus room for a quick Friday overnight stop in Barnstaple, and honestly the bathroom alone made the entire trip. We rolled in around 8pm after driving through heavy Devon mist, and that huge wall-to-wall shower was an extremely perfect antidote to three hours on the M5. The water pressure was properly powerful and instantly hot, not the usual weak hotel trickle, and having nice toiletries right there ready to go felt like luxury. I stood in there for about twenty minutes just thawing out, then dried off and immediately made an espresso on the little pod machine in the room, munching on the complimentary mini chocolate bar while sitting at the table. The staff at the desk were definitly cheerful when I popped down later to grab a couple of spare coffee pods for the morning. We slept like logs in the massive bed and managed to catch a quick plate of bacon and a warm pain au chocolat from the buffet downstairs before hitting the road at nine.

Having read the recent mixed reviews for Barnstaple Premier Inn especially for the breakfast, we weren't sure what to expect Our room was exceptional, we had a large bathroom with a wall to wall shower which was powerful and hot with complimentary toiletries. The room was large with a super comfy bed, with a table and two chairs. We also had a large flat screen tv, fridge with complimentary water, plus a coffee machine with pods (extra ones can be collected from reception) also two small complimentary chocolate bars. All in all a good one night break. Breakfast this morning was a buffet style cooked breakfast, everything was hot and tasty, this was the best cooked breakfast at a Premier Inn that we have eaten, the coffee, orange juice, muffins and pain aux chocolate, all tasty as well. Yes you may have to wait a short while for the hot breakfast to be repelnished but at least it will be hot. We found all the staff to be pleasant during our brief stay.

Meal deal with stay ... Ordered mixed grill and sirloin steak was missing 😩

Stayed here many times before with no complaints. This time however was a different story. The hotel and staff were good but the restaurant was unbelievably bad. The food was ordered and was advised later that there was no fish available so a chose a different item. The food arrived and was appallingly tasteless. It was sent back and we were not charged. It was later discovered that Whitbread (the owners) are in the process of disposing of all their Premier Inn restaurants. It’s a shame they continue to trade as the staff are demoralised and who can blame them. As for the customers the company obviously don’t care.

The so called restaurant bar is a complete joke Friday night the food stopped serving 8:30 no food after a 5 hour drive so go out to a local MacDonald on return at 9:50 the bar is closed can’t sit a relax with a drink don’t stay here
