"Worst visit ever to a premier inn"
I have used the premier inn at Barnstaple Whiddon Drive and this has been my worst experience.
The room was clean and the staff were friendly enough but the fixings on the toilet seat was broken on one side causing the seat to keep moving to one side.
The meals I didn't think was up to the normal standard, especially at breakfast
The toaster was not working properly meaning that you had to put the toast through 5 times and still not properly cooked.
Too busy to take orders for Sunday breakfast so no poached eggs.
Waiting for an hour and 15 minutes for our Saturday evening meal.
The appearance inside and outside of the premier inn is in serious need of redecorating .
I was not impressed at all and would seriously consider in the future whether I would use this particular premier inn again.

"Do not recommend…"
There is not many places to stay in Barnstaple, which is probably why this Premier Inn is still in business. The welcome we received was not warm or friendly, both girls clearly hate their job and I wouldn’t really call it a “welcome”.
The rooms are so hot with no way to turn it down so we were boiling all night.
Had to go down and ask for more teabags as they only give you 2, which is one each for a weekend stay.
If you do decide to stay, do not eat there. I’ve never known a more slow, poor quality restaurant. I’m convinced my curry came from a tin, and to make things worse my poppadom was stale and my rice was cold.
Didn’t think it possible but breakfast was even worse…
I’d say it’s okay for a “cheap stay” but our meal was still £80 and for a premier plus room I don’t know what was “plus” about it.
Sadly, we won’t be returning!

"Great value for money"
Great value for money. We were staying for kitesurfing and got a premium plus room and was very surprised on how good the room was

"Lovely hotel - avoid restaurant!!"
We stay at Premier Inn hotels quite regularly, so we didn’t hesitate to book one when we decided to visit Barnstaple. The hotel was easy to find, with plenty of parking, so first impressions were very positive. The receptionist (I wish I had caught her name) was friendly and helpful, checking us in quickly and efficiently.
We had pre-booked times for both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant next door before heading to our room (number 49). The room itself was excellent—light, bright, spacious, and spotlessly clean. We couldn’t fault it at all. We had a great night’s sleep, and the shower was powerful with plenty of hot water.
However, while we would happily stay at the hotel again, we strongly recommend avoiding the restaurant. The staff, including management, appeared uninterested and lacked knowledge about the food and drink options. The restaurant itself felt neglected—dusty, dirty, and very tired, with a carpet that was noticeably unclean.
The food was only lukewarm, and breakfast service was poorly organised, with basic items such as plates and cutlery unavailable at times.
In summary, the hotel itself is excellent and well worth staying in, but we would definitely choose to eat elsewhere in future.
