"Derby west premier inn, dreadful place"
I had booked into this hell hole for four nights but checked out early after three. The room and common area were tired and not particularly clean, and not up to the standards of lots of other premier inns I have stayed at. The floor that I was staying on absolutely stank of marijuana. I didn’t bother complaining because I knew that other people had. They were told there was nothing the Hotel could do and that it was beyond their control. The bathroom in my room was tired, with water damaged fittings, dirt in the corners and plenty of other guests Hair in evidence, along with black mould as shown in my pictures. The bedroom carpet was unpleasant under foot, you could see the cleaning staff have done their best to try and make it look presentable, but I’m afraid a whip over of a Henry vacuum was not enough. This carpet needed deep cleaning or ripping out. The two chairs in the room were also disgusting covered in stains of I don’t know what! You were able to set your own temperature in the room, which was fine, until when a certain time at night, and until a certain time in the morning, the heating went off. I asked my friends that were staying there about their heating, they said the same happened to them. It’s obviously fixed by the Hotel. The room was freezing, I was so cold it kept me awake all night. Then came my unfortunate experience of eating in the attached restaurant which was called the social, a big mistake, (I would’ve been better off going across the road to the McDonald’s, it would’ve been better food and better value for money, and I am no fan of Mc Donald’s !)
I ordered sweet-and-sour prawns. I got rubbery overcooked breaded prawns, dry microwaved rice and a thick congealed sauce, that was so scoldinghot it took the roofof my mouth off.
I ate somewhere else the following night ! Then on the third night as I had a group of friends also staying and eating at the hotel I decided to eat there again , giving them the benefit of the doubt, after all every restaurant could have a bad night. But no it was even worse. We’ve been asked to pre-order these meals in advance as they were 16 of us eating there . I had a vegetarian burger which I wouldn’t have fed to a pig, a minuscule amount of frys and two very small and insipid floppy onion rings. For desert I had a chocolate fudge brownie I got two 1 1/2 x 1/2 inch squares of a dry excuse of a fudge brownie and a small scoop of ice cream. That meal cost me £27 which I thought was outrageous as the portion sizes were small, (and I’m not a big eater) and the food was just so bad. It seemed like if it couldn’t go in a microwave or a deep fat fryer they didn’t serve it and the chef obviously didn’t know how to use either. The only decent thing about my stay was that the staff in the hotel were incredibly nice. In fact so nice I didn’t want to give them any grief whilst I was there. So I decided to complain when I got home. Big mistake! Apparently you’re supposed to complain whilst at the premises so they have a chance to put it right ! Quite how they could’ve put things right I don’t know, as I asked a couple of my friends if I could take a look in their rooms, and they were just as bad. I told the manager I was checking out a day early whilst I was there. He didn’t even have the courtesy or the common sense to ask me if there was a problem, he just told me to leave my key in the little box on the desk, so I didn’t see the point in complaining to him So if you phone to complain once you get home, then don’t expect them to be one bit interested, Even though they have a phone number for you to call if you’re not happy. When I did call, again a charming member of staff took all the details, put me on hold and went off to speak to their superior, only to came back and tell me there was nothing they could do, because I hadn’t complained whilst I was there. So I guess that’s me not using Premier Inn, in the future. I shall now look elsewhere on my next trip away. But I hope this review will help you to avoid but this particular Premier Inn, it is definitely one to avoid

"Great all around"
The hotel was in a good location to travel to various places. The hospital is just across the road, Aldi and Mcdonalds next door and the centre is 20 min away.
Food was nice and there was a variety for evening meal.
Hotel was clean and tidy, staff were friendly and I felt very safe as a lone female traveller.

"Excellent - especially for gluten free"
Excellent stay. Lovely clean rooms and friendly staff. Amy in the restaurant dealt with my gluten free (coeliac) request very well - table and cutlery re-cleaned, everything cooked fresh. Despite not having much experience (as she said herself) there was more consideration of cross contamination than I've had in some 5* restaurants. Very impressive.

"Cramped room with no windows."
Stayed at this venue for three nights with breakfast each morning and the food was very good. In terms of room comfort, we were very disappointed to be given a room with no windows at all. There were two skylights in the ceiling but difficult to open or adjust the blinds with a pole. The bath was undersized and shower head much lower than usual due to the shape of the sloping ceiling. We did ask for a room change which was refused. Also dissapointed to find that we now have to ask for room cleaning. The room number is 102 and due to the possibility of being given this room again, we will avoid this venue in the future.
