Cockermouth hotel

Do not stay here. Self check in with no help. 1st room had unclean bathroom. 2nd room had a single bed for my son but no bedding. This was eventually done. Requested towels 3 times as only 1 set in the room. We eventually got some this morning. As for the restaurant we were told we had to book. When we arrived at 7pm there were about 5 tables occupied. We eventually got a main course at 8.15. When it arrived the food was cold and the burger and steak underdone. We did complain and were given a refund of part of the bill. However as we were hungry we had to drive into Cockermouth at 8.30 to look for food. We did not even attempt breakfast. We often stay in premier inns and find them very good usually.

Check-in terminal didn’t work, as with every other Premier Inn we have visited. Overheated room which could not be cooled due to fixed window. No dinner available in restaurant so we drove a mile or so into town. Waited too long to be seated for breakfast. Barely warm food. Rubbery fried eggs and disgusting solid scrambled eggs. Barely warm coffee. Very poor value for money at £12.95 per head for a full English breakfast. It’s worth less than £10 even when hot. Need to borrow some heat from bedrooms.

Arrived at hotel to be told on arrival the restaurant(Chef&Brewer) was was closed tonight. I asked if there was any other options. Was given a number menus to order a takeaway at my own expense even though I had prepaid for 2 meal deals.The Chef&Brewer restaurant had been closed since 7th September(according to the local press) Pity Premier inn didn't advise us and the other 5 couples in the same boat. The receptionist on duty had a couldn't care less attitude.

No meal deal here but very good breakfast. Take-aways can be delivered but no thanks to eating in room. No-one around to check in so missed usual welcome. Room clean but would have been nice to open window for a bit of fresh air. Excellent place to eat 4 mins drive is 'The Old Post House which was really lovely and welcoming with delicious food. Did try restaurants in Cockermouth but nowhere to park. Overall good, quiet place to stay.

After seeing some of the recent reviews, I wanted to share some feedback for a one a night stay. If stopping for one night in the Lake District, this Premier Inn is a perfect spot for Keswick and the Lake District Wildlife Park. Checking-in was very smooth, there were plenty of self check-ins, and also receptionists, and our room was spotless. The restaurant was closed for the evening meal, however in Cockermouth centre 5 minutes away there are plenty of pubs to choose from; we went to the Bitter End for a lovely Sunday dinner. The restaurant was open for breakfast, and it seemed like there was only one lady working, though she was very nice and helpful. The food was warm and there were plenty of options. I can’t comment for a longer stay, but for the price paid for one night I feel like there is nothing negative, as long as you are happy to potentially have to eat an evening meal elsewhere.
