Cockermouth hotel

We have just had amazing 2 days primarily to meet family. Staff were excellent. Our meals were just how we liked them and with plenty of choice. Parking easy as was signing in. Our room was clean, plenty of towels, fridge and WiFi are worth paying more for. Perfect location with a choice of places to visit. We will return

We have visited this hotel many times over the last decade and usually love it, but the hotel has really gone back. Firstly when we got there there was an electronic sign that was lying on the ground outside the main doors, not a good impression, then the new check in .i.e a machine which is rubbish, was terrible. Please bring humans back. We got into our room via a dirty staircase, only to discover barely any toilet roll, shampoo and only one bath towel and no hand towels for a family of four. It got worse - the bathroom sink was blocked so we had to brush our teeth over the bath, and one of the panels under the sink dropped off. On the plus side, the staff were quick to supply us with more towels and toilet roll. One thing I always liked about Premier inns was the fact that they usually had a pub next to them and Cockermouth had quite a nice one. We never eat at the adjoining Brewers Fayre but like to have a few drinks there after eating elsewhere. Unfortunately Whitbread have decided to close all their adjoining pubs, but at least they are still serving drinks to residents until 9. However we went in to get a drink (limited to only Coors and Madri) at 8.40, sat down and within 5 minutes last orders had been called. No problem we thought, but we were a bit shocked to be asked to drink up and leave 5 minutes later at 8.50, meaning we had to rush the rest of our drinks, my wife even having to leave some of hers. I have no problem being asked to leave after last orders but this was well before 9 and there were quite a few other people enjoying drinks too. I think someone just wanted to finish work early on a Saturday. The worst was yet to come though. One of the reasons why we booked to come was because we had taken advantage of the free full English breakfast, which sets you up before a long walk in the lakes. However we were a little worried after reading a number of reviews on Tripadviser saying that the chef hadn’t turned up and so there was no cooked breakfast. Sure enough this happened to us, meaning it cost us money to fee ourselves and kids, which it shouldn’t have. Please sort this hotel out Premier Inn, the staff seemed very down about the hotel and I felt very sorry for the lady having to tell everyone that breakfast was off. Like I said we used to love coming here and we also had a bad experience at Harrogate recently. I am having serious thoughts about not booking a Premier Inn stay again to be honest after this. Such a shame.

Not a good start as our booking was mixed up. No early check in or accessible room so had to go away then go back. Room sorted out. Only found out no food being served in the evening for the duration of the weekend on our return. Sunday morning was informed no hot breakfast being served as no staff. Without Sarah, who usually works at the Keswick Premier Inn, the morning could have been worse. We stay in many Premier Inn's and this is the first time we have had this level of disappointment. This is one Premier Inn we won't be returning to.

We have been to this hotel many times but this stay was the worst experience so far. We always start break with a drink in the bar. Sad to find it is now closed until 5pm. Didn't like self check in but coped. We had meal deal booked. Went to restaurant about 5.30. No draught beer and limited choice of bottled beers. First choice of food not available. Waited over an hour for inedible meal. Overcooked but also cold. Surely they couldn't spoil hot chocolate fudge cake. Yep, in microwave too long and chewy. Staff couldn't apologise enough for lack of drinks, services and waiting times. Not their fault. Usually have a gin on meal day, told not available. Breakfast was ok but we won't be booking meal deals again. It will be bed for the night only. Hotel looked very tatty on arrival. Will be thinking twice about booking again. Accommodation was fine.

Do not stay here. Self check in with no help. 1st room had unclean bathroom. 2nd room had a single bed for my son but no bedding. This was eventually done. Requested towels 3 times as only 1 set in the room. We eventually got some this morning. As for the restaurant we were told we had to book. When we arrived at 7pm there were about 5 tables occupied. We eventually got a main course at 8.15. When it arrived the food was cold and the burger and steak underdone. We did complain and were given a refund of part of the bill. However as we were hungry we had to drive into Cockermouth at 8.30 to look for food. We did not even attempt breakfast. We often stay in premier inns and find them very good usually.
