"Be wary of Premier Inn! Budget can also mean bad service and unclean."
Here’s a review-style version with personal details reduced:
My partner and I stayed at Premier Inn Cockermouth from Friday 26 June to Monday 29 June 2026. We were new customers to Premier Inn and had booked online, paying in full by credit card before arrival. We had also received an invoice confirming a nil balance.
After a long drive, we arrived at the hotel and used the reception terminals to check in. The screen stated that a further £15 was owed, even though the stay had already been paid for in full. After waiting, we eventually came across a member of staff by chance. We explained that the charge appeared to be a mistake. She told us it was an error, said there was nothing to worry about, and said she would resolve it.
Unfortunately, the stay itself was very unpleasant. The room was not cleaned on any day of our stay, bins not emptied so rubbish just piled up and neither the bedding nor the towels were changed. We found this very unsanitary. We wanted to raise the issue, but there was never anyone available at reception when we needed help, and there was no phone in the room.
When we booked, we had expected the Brewers Fayre restaurant to serve evening food. However, we were told it only served breakfast, so we had to make other arrangements and more expense and cost. What should have been an enjoyable relaxing walking weekend in the Lakes was turned into a stressful and unpleasant experience by the hotel issues.
When we checked out, again nobody was available at reception. After returning home, I checked my credit card and found that Premier Inn had debited £15 without notifying me or obtaining my approval, despite us being told at check-in that the charge was an error.
Overall, we were extremely dissatisfied with the stay. The lack of room cleaning, rubbish removal, the lack of available staff, the unavailable evening restaurant service, and the unexplained £15 charge made this a very poor experience. Based on this stay, I would not be keen to use this hotel again.

"No food"
No restaurant or bar facilities available only breakfasts, apparently this is the way forward for premier inns, shutting them down. Will not stop at Premier inns with no restaurant/bar available again. Hotel is in remote position with nothing within walking distance and a very busy road and roundabout to cross just to access a garage snack shop.

"Amazing team members.."
Although very disappointed the restaurant was closed for evening meals, they do open for breakfast and from 11am till 4, for drinks etc. The staff cope so well, Gary, Andrea and Joanne, all great team members, who help make your stay better, despite the closure. Try the Dovendale Ship pub, for food, very nice. Can the restaurant be opened for next time? It really is lovely to go down for your meals, on-site, and great value too. It all adds up when you have to travel to town for food, and it takes up valuable relax time! Thank You to all the amazing afore mentioned staff members, couldn’t have coped without you.

"No restaurant"
Although the room itself was fine, there is no restaurant or bar so no where to get food or something to drink, when I mentioned this she pointed at a vending machine
