Helston hotel

Friendly welcome and helpful reception with allotting a downstairs room - no lift and I have mobility issues. Stayed 4 nights. Pretty quiet and only a short walk to the MayTree restaurant for breakfast. Convenient location for touring the many wonderful destinations in the area. Porthleven is delightful and Helston has some great pubs. Hotel is clean but could do with a refurb and a personal preference would be for walk in shower rather than shower over bath, but it’s a good Premier Inn nevertheless.

Could be so much better. Reception staff were professional, friendly and helpful. Check in was great. Room was comfortable if a little tired! But clean. Breakfast was adequate, everything you could want/need. However, like the hotel the breakfast area (separate building) was tired and dirty. The floors had food all over them from the previous day or longer! The toilets were gross. Added to this the lady that showed you to your table, cleared tables and stocked up the food had a bad cold and was continually coughing which was off putting and not conducive to a food outlet! Glad we didn’t book to have dinner!

Stayed here with a group whilst exploring the lovely Lizard area. Hotel staff on whole friendly, although lady on reception in the pub opposite wasn't particularly welcoming at breakfast. Check in quick, despite there being 14 of us, lovely gentleman on reception was amazing. Few minor hiccups with table booking at restaurant, but as it wasn't in same building as usual, this maybe understandable Very weird experience in my room as someone had stolen lightbulbs from the two small lights next to bed. I asked recepetion to get housekeeping to sort, but was told a specialist electrical engineer was needed....I did say that if you give me some I can do it myself, but it was a "health and safety issue", so I had to leave spotlights on overnight if I wanted to read my book. Next morning same lady on reception so I asked her the chances of getting two light bulbs, but she was adamant that it needed to be done by an ENGINEER! I then asked her politely how she managed at home when a lightbulb went... I was going to make a complaint, but couldn't wait to speak to manager as she advised as our group was waiting to go. When I got back, magically the lightbulbs were in situ. Would have given 5 stars, but due to mix up on table bookings. unwelcoming lady at breakfast and lightbulb issue, sadly it is only a 3.

All staff are very helpful and I can't fault them at all, but the rooms are damp with black mould around the windows, the restaurant, toilets and hallways around them are really very grubby. This place would be fine if they spent a little time and money on maintenance and cleanliness.

We had an enjoyable stay at this Premier Inn, there was plenty of free parking and the receptionist on our arrival, Larry, was very helpful, smiling and friendly. Our room was clean, well maintained and we had two peaceful nights sleep in the comfortable bed, good shower. Breakfast at the May Tree was good as well.
