Bodmin hotel

We wanted to eat in the restaurant on the second night of our stay so went down at 5.30 when we'd been told it opened. We asked about food but were advised it would be about 7 until we could order which we could manage so sat and had a drink. At 7, we asked again about food only to be told we needed to book in and they were full! When we pointed out our hungry 9 year old and why we'd been waiting, they did agree to "squeeze us in" at 7.15. We were seated and ordered but they didn't have any fresh chicken so some dishes were off. Instead a starter and side were ordered and asked to be brought together, with the other mains. No problem at all, we were told and a note was made. After half an hour, the side appeared but nothing else. "Oh I did tell the kitchen but they cooked in the wrong order, the rest will be here soon." 45 minites later, still no more food, so we'd been waiting for over an hour! We had to chase it 3 times before anything arrived. By this point, I was so tired and stressed I said I wanted to cancel my own order, but it was still brought out-and sent back-15 minutes later! Breakfast wasn't great either. It's table service but the sausages were barely cooked and other items were only warm at best. If you miss the restaurant, they don't mind you ordering takeaway but insist you eat it in your room "in case of allergies" which seems a lame excuse. We saw them arguing with two people who said they didn't want takeaway smell in their room. When they shut the restaurant, they actually ask you to leave straight away and lock the doors! The rooms also need attention. Ours didn't have bulbs in the lamps and some of the light switches didn't work.

The building is showing signs of age, but this is more than made up for, by the welcome and help from Jade, Bracken and Jackie. They cheerfully resolved a few minor issues with our room.

The main issue was the dining area and service.,The table we were shown to was shabby and the chairs were dirty. The waitress said she was usually the receptionist but had stepped in due to staff shortages. We waited 40 minutes for our main meal and a further 45 minutes for our dessert. When the dessert arrived, we were told that they had no bananas for the Banoffee Yoghourt and we were not given an alternative.

Stayed in Bodmin to travel to different locations in Cornwall. Hotel was a little tired on the outside and restaurant was tired too. The beds were comfortable and the staff very helpful and cheerful. We had breakfast which was fine. Could do with a refurb.

Room clean and beds comfy. The rest of the offering was not up to standard. The staff, with the exception of Pam and 2 whose name badges we couldn't see, seemed uninterested in being there. Certainly they didn't seem trained or skilled in providing good customer service. Very few greetings at breakfast and no apologises for being kept waiting. The place seemed leaderless with no visible Manager so this is down to the Company and not individuals. We did not get any welcome and were immediately asked what rime we wanted Breakfast when we hadn't been told what time it was served. The evening food was hit and miss. Big stack burger was good. My first choice was not available and a number of items were off menu. My chickpea dish did not meet the description and when I asked , we we're told that the chef was new and there was only 1 chef. Breakfast was good but some items on the menu were unavailable and seemed poorly stocked. It seemed like they have supplier issues. Big thanks to Pam for getting pancakes ready for this morning after I missed out yesterday. Overall, disappointing and not what we expect from Premier Inn. We've used them many times as their service and offering has always been superior to the opposition. We will rethink that for our next trip.
