Huntingdon (A1/A14) hotel

The room was excellent. The bloke on reception (Gary) was exceptionally helpful and welcoming.

We found the receptionist - Gary - to be very helpful. He swiftly combined two separate bookings (a mistake on our part) into one, in order to avoid us moving rooms halfway through our stay. He also provided us with a couple of bottles of water - something we normally get out of the vending machine. We usually book Premier Inn on our UK travels as they provide a consistent, value for money service with comfortable beds. Gary made this occasion even more pleasant.

I have stayed in many places, countries and types of hotels/guest houses and I have never been so uncomfortably hot anywhere as in this hotel room. The temperature outside was in the mid to high 20s but the temperature inside the room was 35 degrees (my watch tells me the temperature, and I even removed it from my wrist to make sure it wasn't measuring my body temperature). The fan was not effective because this temperature is too high for it to make a difference. The windows only open a few inches and there is no ventilation system. I was very surprised it was this bad because, in my experience, Premier Inn is a higher standard than other comparable chain hotels. I knew that there was no air conditioning at this particular branch, but I assumed it would be possible to get air into the room as the temperature outside was quite pleasant. But we boiled in our beds overnight and left feeling shattered.

We have been here twice before and were well satisfied. But this time they said at the check in desk that our car number plate was not necessaary even though we offered it. As a result we have received a fine of £25 for parking in the car park even though we were staying in a booked room. We have been in touch with the hotel direct and with the central office and have received no help whatsoever. This is well below the standard of care we normally expect from Premier Inns. This will impact on our future bookings!

Staff at check in were really welcoming, friendly and offered good advice and local knowledge regarding our onward journey The room was clean and plenty of space but the issue was the temperature it was around 36 degrees in the room when we arrived - during the warmest part of the day outside was 28. There were 2 fans in the room but all they did was blow the warm air around, the window did not open wide enough to get a breeze in. The temperature of the room didn’t drop below 33 degrees overnight despite the outdoor temperature being being 19 degrees. I slept in my car
