"Policy over empathy is a quick route to disaster"
So initially I reviewed this hotel and it’s colleagues at a high level, as I can’t write an updated review I’ve had the delete the old one.
Now, in fairness- things happen in the day to day, in this case, the boiler went off in the whole hotel and as annoying as that is, it can’t be helped.
So here are the reasons I’ve amended the review. 1st of all I have tendinitis in my left knee so I requested on the book in a walk in shower… not the 2ft tall bath to climb in..
when I asked to change rooms as this wasn’t supplied I was told the ENTIRE HOTEL WAS FULL… on a Wednesday… all 450+ rooms… bar and restaurant had 4 ppl in it inc me.. seemed strange.
Next morning I gingerly climbed into the bath for a shower…. Freezing! No hot water then I had to get out of the stupidly high bath and yes I did cause more damage to myself. Thanks!
Now the boiler going off is out of anyone’s control. But the next bit is..
1. They had 1 colleague taking the bullet from everyone that morning and he was armed with a torn piece of paper and typed out options on it.
Now by the time I got there he had obviously had a towing off a few people so he was understandably tetchy and my annoyance was clearly taken as me having a pop! It wasn’t it was annoyance… at this point a customer wants empathy not backchat about “your day” you are there to represent the brand I wasn’t rude, I wasn’t shouting I was however in a lot of pain, didn’t feel clean, I had already felt lied to so I was clear and blunt.
If said person wasn’t management then this is not acceptable
I said I will be back around 17:30 as I needed to be in an all day meeting as hopefully they would have a fix in place for all 450+ rooms that they charge at £130 a night … circa £59,000 per night.
Got back at 18:00
There was a new piece of paper… here was my options
1. Stay in the room and pay the full rate ( no refund or compensation) no hot water, no meals, no drinks.
2. We can relocate outside of Cambridge because of availability, it’s not to far of a drive…
3. We can refund you the money and you can wander around Cambridge and find another hotel of your choice
(Remember even if this was my personal card used it would take up to a week to get that refund… what if I had had no money spare?)
Disgraceful customer care!

"Premier inn Cambridge east"
The premier plus room needs updating, badly stained carpet also table had chips out of it, and why oh why do they only put 1 comfy chair in a double room, on a better note, the staff very friendly, restaurants staff, Raheem and Kayed, very professional, polite and hard working, both, a credit to your company

"Nice Room and Staff"
The room I got was really nice for a short stay. Nothing bad to say about it. The portions in the restaurant are smaller than the price would suggest for my liking but it was still a nice experience overall thanks to the waiter, Raheem.

"Warm welcomed"
As someone who works in hospitality, I was so impressed watching Raheem single-handedly manage 8-9 full tables in the restaurant. He took orders, brought out drinks, and served food and mains completely on time with excellent service and a fantastic attitude. Exceptional work under high pressure he is a credit and a massive asset to the Premier Inn Newmarket team!

"Good location premier inn"
Fabulous check in with Kim at reception. We booked the premium room and it’s def worth the little extra. Room 304. Clean, great size room. Downside overlooked busy road, air con goes off at random times, car park costs £11.80 which I thought was pricey and annoyed to realise this morning we only had one set of towels despite two of us staying in the room!!! The bed also wasn’t the usual comfortable one and the sheet didn’t even cover the bed! Not great house keeping.
