Reading Central hotel

I recently stayed at this hotel and was let down by a manager who showed a lack of professionalism in the way that she dealt with a situation. I reported to her that the air conditioning in my room appeared to be fault as, despite providing the functionality to increase or decrease temperature, mine was stuck of 19. It would neither go up nor down. This woman told me that it was not faulty and that it was centrally controlled by the hotel, which ensured that guests cannot make their rooms cooler or warmer. She then told me that she could make an adjustment to allow me to raise the thermostat, which I repeated numerous times that I didn’t want. That I wanted it to be cooler. Failing to actually listen to what I was saying, she went out the back to make those adjustment. She then told me that no Premier Inns in the UK had air conditioning that went below 19, which I believe is incorrect. She then went on to say that the air conditioning would turn off at 23:00 every night in order to “save the planet”! This, despite being a paying customer who had booked for a hotel advertised as having air conditioning. She claimed all Premier Inns do this. This is not true (I’ve checked). Later, when I enquired about a fan, she changed her story and said that she had earlier said that customers can switch it back on after 23:00. This was a lie as she had not said this earlier (I recorded the conversation on my phone). Her overall persona was very odd. She came across as lacking empathy and sincerity. I don’t appreciate staff lying to paying customers to cover their own backs, and treating them like they’re an annoyance. This member of staff needed proper training.

Domi at the front desk was super helpful and friendly. Location was perfect, just across the road from the main town centre. Within walking distance to Reading train station. Room was super clean and had no issues with noise.

The hotel was ok. Clean and had what we needed for a couple of nights. Good location. Highlight of hotel was very friendly and kind staff. In particular Aneta. She made it easy to have children at breakfast.
