"Come with low expectations... you might still be disappointed."
It's a poor example of a Premier Inn. We've stayed several times as the location works well, so our expectations are low yet somehow new ways to disappoint seem to arise every time. Free parking, good location for Luton Airport and relatively cheap. Breakfast is the high point, staff are really attentive and keep hot and cold/ambient items freshly replenished, so no disappointment or need to eat a series of breakfast components separately, rather than as a meal. Generally though, it's shabby - bathrooms need updating, family rooms really aren't big enough, breakfast area is depressing and the same stain that was on the bench seating two years ago has been neither deep-cleaned nor replaced. New disappointments - coffee machine broken which happens but does make breakfast less good value. Our family group of four and another one were each seated at small round tables with inadequate space despite three larger tables being available. Inevitable outcome of this odd approach is that tables more suited to 4 people were then given to groups of 2 and 3. Most bizarrely we were not permitted a second key with the Kafka-esque justification that there were only 15 keys available for 9 rooms - by my reckoning that meant two-thirds of us yet to check-in could have a second key. Apparently not. Oh, and broken light in the bedroom, had lost the will to live with reception by that point so didn't waste my time reporting. The issues do seem to be with investment and localised policies though, so definitely management rather than staff.

"Dreadful noise and smell from kitchen"
We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years as it's handy for St Albans. On this occasion we checked in later than we usually do and we're given an upstairs room facing out towards the back of the hotel. Everything was fine until just before 7 a.m. in the morning when we were woken up by a disgusting smell of cooking oil and noise from the kitchen extractor fan. It turns out the fan was immediately below our window and we were positioned above the kitchen. We had hoped to grab a lie in and leave at 11, however due to the smell and noise we grabbed a shower and headed off a couple of hours earlier than planned. Ask before you check in whether you've been placed directly above the kitchen as if you don't like the smell of greasy spoon cafe you definitely won't enjoy spending time in that room.
