Bedford South (A421) hotel

Some staff were too busy taking personal calls when we were asking for T's & Coffee top-ups for our room that never arrived. We found a huge spider in our bed. We had booked 9 weeks in advance, 24 hours before our check-in, we received an email informing us that there is NO bar or restaurant facilities due to renovation work. Surely this level of disruption is planned well in advance so notifying customers well in advance is the right thing to do. Obviously not for Premier Inn as I would have liked to have the option to book elsewhere, had there been sufficient notice.

On a positive the parking was free and plentiful. The room itself smelt of smoke, there were splash marks up the walls where stuff had been spilt. There was dust over the walls themselves that was like sticky dust. The plug socket near the bed didn’t work. In the bathroom the shower needed descaling as when you turned it on it sprayed out in all directions soaking the floor. All of the skirting boards were thick in dust and when you ran the bath black specks came out of the tap onto the water. Breakfast/dinner was awful. There wasn’t anyone to greet us on the first day as the staff were stood chatting and there was a large A4 list that listed everything they didn’t have. At breakfast the coffee machine wasn’t working, the food was often empty and not regularly topped up, there were no clean glasses, the toaster took forever and the utensils for the hot food had been placed in the food, under the hot lamps so they were red hot to touch. Overall the restaurant felt dirty with stains on the ceiling and dirty glasses from the previous night still on the tables outside.

Excellent location with free parking . Reception staffed by Shanna who is excellent at her job. She is so pleasant and helpful.

Easy access off the A421 just outside of Bedford. The room modern in looks, and NOT looking tired or dated. Tge hotel from reception to hotel room was clean and tidy. The room itself was also very clean. There is a Brewers Fayre pub/restaurant adjacent to the hotel, which provides reasonably good food at an affordable price.
