"Nothing premier about this inn!"
On arrival the man on reception very loudly announced what room number I was staying in. As a solo female this is rather worrying as had there been anyone else in earshot they would have known exactly where I was staying. Your staff need training in customer security. Don't say the room number out loud, point to it written on the key card.
The room was looking worse for wear with scratches on walls and furniture and dark human hairs on the bathroom door.
I was located in the room right next to reception and the entrance which meant I couldn't have the window open due to noise and also a concern for safety. This resulted in a very hot and uncomfortable night with very little sleep.
The continental breakfast was poor and over priced.
On checking out there were no staff at the desk as they were all stood in the entrance cover smoking. This looked so unprofessional and meant I had to walk through their smoke to exit the building.
I paid £129 for 1 night which was an absolute rip off for the state of the room, the awful customer service and lack of customer safety provided.
This needs addressing immediately.

"Needs updating"
We arrived to the hotel and the cigarette extinguisher/bin was overflowing. Considering one of the front of house spent a lot of time loitering there vaping you would have thought he would have done something about it. Clearly not as it was still overflowing when we checked out two days later.
We booked a room with air con, to find out there is no air con. 32degrees the windows only open a few cm and the console clearly states heats only. That meant very little sleep for us more boil in the bag than relaxing evenings sleep.
The lower part of the room was clean but there was a number of thick cobwebs around the top edges. The wardrobe unit has a broken piece of mdf sticking out on the lower edge.
The bathroom was dated and battered. The toilet seat was broken and rocked thanks to there being a couple of the rests underneath completely missing. And the shower more water pissed out of the back of the shower head where the hose attached rather than out the shower head itself.
Only one set of towels was left in the room despite being booked for two. So had to go to reception for more towels on day one.
There were pastries such as croissants and pan au chocolate in a basket in reception. Although it was a nice idea. Any food left out should be covered. They were out a long time without being covered.
The vending machine was pretty empty throughout the duration-if you’re not filling it don’t have one. Overall the location, free parking and the pub next door were the highlights.

"No air con "
Stayed at a few premier inns and this one is dated. We stayed in a heatwave and with no aircon in hotel made the nights sleep terrible. The room was at 27 degrees on arrival and remained at that temp all night. The fan supplied spun, but put out no air

"Would recommend"
We booked a twin room for 2 adults (not a couple) for £55 to visit York which was great value and worked out better for us than the city centre option. Premier Inn HQ sent us an email in error just before our stay saying maintenance work was happening so there would be no lift or air con. As both of our party had mobility issues we emailed and called to see if we could have a ground floor room if the lift wouldn't be working. They gave us a disabled ground floor twin room close to reception which was fantastic (the service and the room itself). Wet room shower with fold down chair attached to wall, roll under sink, plenty of space in the bathroom with support bars we found hugely helpful and red emergency cords. Plenty of space moving around the room, 2 single beds with a desk and a chair, also small bed side tables, a standing floor lamp, a large desk fan (it was a bit of a heatwave when we visited) and our window that faced the car park and pub next door opened 6 inches or so at the bottom (security locked to prevent wider opening). Good heavy curtains, tea and coffee supplies plentiful, only one towel in the room but a giant pile in the lobby and free to grab more. Standard small wardrobe and shelves with hair dryer and coat hooks, and power outlets and light switches everywhere. We had a key issue but the receptionist solved it quickly. Friendly helpful staff. Tons of leaflets for local attractions in the lobby and even a white board with useful local information including the local bus stops and park and ride! We had Googled this in advance but very helpful to have on a sign in reception. Local bus on main road just outside is a 5 min walk away, it's regular and only takes 10-15 mins to get into York centre or back.
We booked the cooked breakfast including continental which is done on site next to reception, and it was pretty good, a few issues but mostly great if you order right. For example we ordered scrambled eggs and bacon with some sliced bread (intending to butter it) but the eggs came sitting on top of plain sliced bread which was too soggy to rescue. Smart option is to help yourself to as much as possible and just order the hot cooked non bread parts to be brought to you. I found all the hot food to be hot and fresh, cooked to order and pretty good. The small self service continental breakfast area includes a tea and coffee machine with plenty of PG tips varieties and coffee styles and they don't mind you taking a mug back to your room or outside to smoke. Croissants, pain au Chocolat, small blueberry muffins, American pancakes and English crumpets available with white and wholegrain seeded bread and a toaster and all manner of spreads and butter etc. A variety of cereal and milk and fruit juice and fresh fruit available. We had breakfast late at around 10 and had no problems but I can imagine at peak earlier times it might be a little slow due to their system of cooking and serving but there's loads of seating. I recommend it as good value - we had breakfast then skipped lunch and just had a snack (often a bit of fruit from the breakfast) during the day and then dinner.
Plenty of outdoor private parking which is free if you enter your reg in the machine in reception (I only had to do this once for 3 days) shared with the pub next door which I cannot recommend enough for a drink or a meal.
Nearest other amenities include a giant retail park an 8 min drive away that includes a massive Tesco Extra, fast food options and other shopping outlets.
While exploring York for 3 days we did see the Premier Inn York Central and it has a lot of steps at the entrance and looked quite small and run down (and more expensive and no free parking which is why we booked this one).
Found the hotel overall very clean and modern and didn't see anything dirty or broken etc during our 3 day stay.

"Find a different hotel"
The premier inn at York North was a huge disappointment. The room was cramped and gloomy. The bedside light didn't work (reported but not fixed) the window was covered in green algae on the outside and there was lots of rubbish on the flat roof directly outside the window. The toilet floor was sticky and smelled of stale urine and the shower cubicle was mouldy. The complimentary shower gel was empty so I had to ask reception for a new bottle.
It was the worst premier inn I've stayed in. Even the reception staff looked bored and unimpressed.
£370 for 3 nights thanks to their dynamic pricing.
I've stayed in lots of Premier inn hotels and this has to be the worst.
