"In rapid decline"
We stay here regularly and have done so over the last three years. Unfortunately, over the past couple of months, this hotel has rapidly deteriorated in terms of service and standards. Housekeeping seriously let this place down. It's almost as if they aren't even there. When we last stayed, none of the surfaces/tables were wiped down and had grease from previous guests' food on them, the bathroom was full of mould which indicates long term zero cleaning. We moved our sofa slightly and there was an old tissue, random bit of paper and food crumbs which tells us the room was skimmed over at the very minimum. It is shocking that housekeeping staff are unable to even give the rooms a basic clean. This hotel was refurbished just 7-8 months ago but you'd not know it with how unkempt the place has become. I genuinely feel sorry for the remaining colleagues who have to put up with complaints constantly because other departments and their management let them down so frequently. If there's a Hotel Manager at this hotel, they need to be pushed out and quickly!
"beggars and no receptionists, broken lifts, poor security and inexperienced manager"
We arrived to find a young women who we then found out was the duty manager vacuuming the carpets and found out she was the only member of staff there. She quite clearly had very little experience in management. The two lifts are both out of action. On a previous visit a month before one already was not working. My husband is 73 and I have a bad back problem - the manager had no answer as to how we would get our luggage to the room. The website material suggests we can have an early check in if we inquire at the time of arrival. The managers answer is that this is never possible it is always after 3?? We arrived at one and were told take a seat and wait - for two hours? My husband asked for a drink and was told the bar is not open till six. Is it presumed safe that in a town centre hotel you have the situation that anybody can enter the hotel when the lifts are out of action and can wander up the stairs and around the hotel. Also that there is only one member of staff working on a Sunday in a busy hotel. Is it any wonder she looked stressed and close to tears. Also my husband outside the hotel was accosted by three beggars asking for money as he entered the hotel is this the welcome one now receives at Croydon Premier Inn - beggars and no receptionists, broken lifts and inexperienced managers? We have stopped at Croydon Town Centre Premier Inn many times with family over the last 20 years and have noted it going downhill for the past few. The only comment from the manager - contact head office.

Despite a lot of poor recent reviews i have always had a "decent" stay here-been here 6-7 times in last 2 years Ok its nor perfect and staffing levels could be better and the bars a bit hit and miss but I have always had friendly service,clean and fresh room and a good kip,decent breakfast and plenty of it!-and at a great value price Maybe i have been lucky,maybe its because I am a chatty Northener?-maybe its because i smile when chatting to staff !-who knows but it will do me
"Feels more like a hostel"
Feels more like a hostel. Lift not working, limited staff. Smelly towels, breakfast greasy and processed food, nothing fresh. Had a male staff walk into our room at 11pm when we were sleeping - quite scary. Would not recommend.
"Broken lifts and smelly towels"
We booked this hotel over a year ago- as wanted specific dates. An email 2 weeks ago warned us that the lifts were currently 'unavailable' and it might take us 'a little longer to get to our room'. At (self ) check-in we were allocated a room on the 5th floor. Both lifts had been burnt out in fire on 6th floor last month. There were problems from the word go with key cards not working - meaning more treks up and down stairs. Only towels for one person in our room , so I approached cleaner on the 5th floor and got some more the next day. Unfortunately, all the towels we were given did not smell clean/fresh. One of them stank of feet! When I asked the cleaner about cleaning our room (we were there for 3 nights ) she just said, 'No'! The majority of the reception/ bar/ restaurant staff are v nice and helpful- despite having to work in multiple areas and having to deal with a lot of seriously unhappy guests. I wonder what it will take for management to sit up and take notice. (This is the second time I have attempted to post a review of this hotel in the last week. The first one was through the Premier Inn website- and it never appeared- wonder why?!)
