"Rather tired and dated"
We first stayed in this Premier Inn a year ago but unfortunately twelve months later we feel that it has become very tired and dated. The outside paintwork is peeling badly and the area generally looks unkempt. However, reception staff were pleasant and our Premier Plus room was clean. The traffic noise, even with the windows closed, was a nuisance. The Beefeater restaurant is fairly scruffy. Chairs, carpets, etc are stained. The food was fine and once again, staff were pleasant. Breakfast was spoiled a little for us by the large group of noisy workmen whose language at times was unacceptable. Staff explained that they are aware of this problem and are dealing with it as best they can. The best part of our experience here was the fact that staff were welcoming and helpful. However, we won't be staying again.
"Sweets & Bubbles"
Room was clean and very welcoming, there were little sweets and bubbles put on the bed for our children which was very thoughtful and made their day. The reception staff couldn't have been nicer :-) rooms a bit stuffy with no air conditioning but the fan worked a treat :-)
"Room 101, where dreams of sleep go to die"
The aptly numbered Room 101, the room where dreams of a good night sleep go to die. Stayed during a hot spell on June and the room was extremely hot, stale and stuffy. The window was extremely small, about 8-12 inches tall and did not lend well to getting fresh air into the room. The room is right next to the main door for the corridor, which meant that the door slammed through the night as it closed behind other guests. That combined with the noise from the motorway and the stifling trapped heat in the room made for a very poor experience. We complained to reception in the morning and were told to call the main line to try and get a refund which was refused.
"OK but a bit dated"
Room was ok, service from the front desk was very good. Outside looks a bit dated and a lick of paint wouldn’t go a miss. Do be aware this Premier Inn DOES NOT HAVE AIR-CON. Also be aware there are no Twin Rooms on the ground floor. Parking is plentiful.
"We would stay again !"
There seems to be mixed reviews so as someone who regularly stays in much more upmarket hotels Id like to offer some balanced comments. We found reception and the house keeping staff both friendly and attentive. Our premier-plus room was spotless spacious and comfortable. The rooms appeared to have had recent upgrades. It was a very convenient location for starting our visit to Hadrian’s Wall. However there was traffic noise with our window open because it is sandwiched between two major roads. We ate an evening meal in the Beefeater which was convenient & tasty but basic. Service on a Sunday was slow. We didn’t eat breakfast there as we chose an early start to Lanercost Priory where there is a great cafe. Our main criticism would be of the EV chargers which are independent of Premier Inn but on site for hotel guests. They cost 83p per kwh. They also charge £10 per 90minute excess stay and in our case this was wrongly calculated and meant seeking a refund after our holiday. Take a photo of the signage and instructions as you may need them as evidence if you need to challenge any charge made. The Tebay service station on M6 is much more efficient with super quick EV chargers especially if you are aTesla user. Would we stay again? Yes!
