"Very friendly service"

"Super Lage, gutes Hotel"

"Not advisable during a heat wave!"
The hotel on 1st impression looks quite tired & unwelcoming but the lady who greeted us on reception was lovely. Our room was on the 2nd (top) floor, 4 sets of stairs, no lift.
We walked into our room & the heat took the air from your lungs! It was ridiculously hot despite the window being open to its maximum (barely a crack due to the restrictor bar). There was a modern fan which we put on which did offer some relief. The room itself was small & modern with only slight signs of wear. The bathroom & shower, over bath was also nice.
We stayed for 3 nights & I can honestly say, I have never slept so bad in my life! Nor have I ever felt the need to sleep with not so much as a thin sheet covering me, but it was the only option! The pillows were awful, the mattress rock hard. Sleeping with the fan was super noisy & made my hair constantly blow around, making me tickle & itch. Sleeping without it was not an option door to the extreme heat 31° with the fan ON full blast! It was that bad that when trying to get ready for our friends wedding my hair was literally getting wet through swear as it dried! My makeup was a mess & so I had to give up trying! I don’t understand why air conditioning wasn’t added to the rooms during the recent refurb!
We used the bar on site the first night, I couldn’t make out whether the guy serving was having a moan about the takeover by the hotel of the bar or was having a go at us for enquiring about draft beers, all beers are bottled, no draft! We learnt that the bar & restaurant will be going as that part of the site is going to be converted into more rooms. That’s a shame as a decent bar & restaurant on site, would perhaps encourage us to return during less extreme weather. As it stands, the bar isn’t decent. It was very tired & smelly.
We went for breakfast the following morning. It wasn’t all buffet, the English breakfast, though “limitless” had to be ordered on arrival & took some time to get to the table (around an hour), despite not being busy, so the chances of anyone ordering more was pretty slim! However it wasn’t bad & the refillable coffee from the machine was actually really good, the staff were lovely & the continental buffet was decent, was great to see crumpets on there & a proper 4 slice toaster. For £10.99 it was good.
Going back to the room issues. The tap water didn’t taste right, with having stomach issues anyway I didn’t want to risk drinking it if it came from a roof tank. I did mention this to a member of staff but she didn’t confirm either way. It came out of the tap quite warm. She did go & get 2 glasses of water, with ice from the restaurant for us which was nice as I’d been having to pay £2.70 each for a small bottle of cold water from the vending machine! It might’ve been an idea, given that the hotel was aware of the extreme temperatures in the rooms, for them to have supplied each room with cold, bottled, water. A mini fridge might be an idea for the future too.
There were ample amounts of tea/coffee supplies available though, so at least that was something. If I had to stay here again, I’d request a ground floor room, bring my own pillow & stock up on water, though honestly, I think we could find better accommodation for the same money if we were to look. We stayed here because our friends were with us & were staying here. They had a ground floor room which was hot but no where near as hot as our room was.
