Birmingham City Centre (Exchange Square) Hotel

Whilst the outside is a little dystopian the inside is warm and welcoming. The room is the usual premier inn room (which is good!), the food was good and I wasn't disturbed by any noise (pretty sure I was on top floor though). Good position for station and Bullring. Would stay again.

First of all the negatives. We arrived after a train journey and a walk from the station before check in time in order to leave our bag. We needed to use the toilet and followed the sign leading into the bar/restaurant only to be stopped by the receptionist who said that the toilets were closed for cleaning but we could walk to the Wetherspoon pub up the road. On the day of departure we checked out but returned later in the day to collect our bag from the luggage room. Again we wanted to go to the toilet and my husband made his way into the bar area. The duty manager complained to the receptionist about letting him go in and went to get the key by which time he came out and I went in. DM then locked the door to the bar with me inside. My husband pointed out that I was inside and she let me out. During the conversation that ensued she told me that the toilets were for the restaurant only during opening hours and the hotel “doesn’t come with toilets” I have taken this up with Guest Relations but they feel it’s acceptable to prevent access to the toilets in case non residents attempt to use them. (The tale told by the DM). On the first occasion I feel the cleaning story was just an excuse. For the second occasion the only people in the lobby were queuing to check in. In between these two events we had a pleasant stay at the hotel and appreciated the enhanced room on the 11th floor but the lack of hospitality ruined the experience.
