Pickering Hotel

Yet another stay at another Premier Inn ,this one was immaculate and staff very friendly Room was lovely and clean and a spacious car park in walking distance from the town

Stopped here for a 3rd time for Rally Yorkshire. Great location, friendly staff & good breakfast. Standard Premier Inn offering, just a shame the bar has to close at 1000pm… be nice to have a pint after a night in Dalby Forest! See you in September 2027!

Great location, really easy to find and ideal to have a look around the Yorkshire Moor area. Stay was only for 1 night but we will return for a longer visit. Thornton-le-Dale and Pickering were lovely, there is a direct train to York that we will take on our next visit - we went to Whitby for a wander and Fish and Chips which was lovely. The room was the usual Premier Inn good standard, very clean with a really comfy bed. The hotel had plenty of parking which was free for guests and was quiet. Dinner was delicious and good value for money, breakfast also didn't disappoint.

OK I will start with the positives , then the minor negatives :) 1. The Staff do a fab job with the resorces they have ie: Kitchen Equipment for one .. but because only me and maybe a few others ordered mixed grill ( what would happen if the whole place wanted one i think it would be a long wait ) but it was done in no time and to perfection . infact prob best i had in years . Black pudding swug it for me yummm ! so 10 out of 10 for the cooks and staff ... 2. Next the Customer service & interaction with guests was just brilliant & very profesional .... Great asset to the prem inn brand .. special shout to David .. & the lady who took over the shift from david ( sorry forgot name ) just both so profesional dedication shone thru ..... as were all the staff we met .. we have nothing but praise to what seemed a well jelled team effort for the way they conduct them selves .. also a shout out for all the cleaners who must work so hard to make our rooms so spotless .. Thank you to them too .. 3 The Parking is Ample and free . 4 The beds so comfy ... 5 . The black out cutains made a big difference to our sleep . 6 . Evening meals spot on .. 7 . Great location .. Now i must just mention a few things not so good regarding things out of staff control.. 1 The fact the clicking off on on the wall switch from back of our headboard in next room was a bit annoying .. 2 the hairdryer not working .. but we had our own ... 3 The baths are so narrow , Having a shower was a bit tricky .. & 4 .. The Bath tap mixers are so infuriating , and stiff and a pain to controll & hurt hand .. so on that alone would put us off returning .. Maybe the powers that be will have a look at the budget for these to be changed .. Perhaps a few nights of them living in these rooms would be eye opener as surley they wont have these type of taps at home ! & lastly The shower screen we found so hard to open , but managed eventally .. just small points but for a newish build of around 5 yrs maybe some things could be looked at or at leased put under review.. One last thing regarding approching in a car etc from pickering town .. as you approch the Entrance to the hotel , with it being on a bend we found it a bit sudden & upon us in a second so have to brake & indicate a bit late , so any car to close would have to brake hard too , Maybe a better NOTICE warning sign would be a good idea .. So to sum up .. A few niggles but on whole , a alternative to B&B & a good base for exploring area / steam railway etc & lots shops in pickering half mile down road ... 4 stars out of 5 .. shame about the taps :) .. keep up the good work Team Pickering :) & Thank you for serving us well .. We stayed four nights to explore this beautiful part of Yorkshire. Positives- we booked a premier plus room which came with a fridge, coffee machine and spring water and chocolate. The hotel was in a nice quiet location and had plenty of parking which is free. Breakfast was plentiful and didn’t run out. The staff did their best and were relentlessly polite and apologetic when things went wrong, Negatives-THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH STAFF- Premier Inn- you do not have enough people working here and as a result the existing staff are run off their feet at meal times as they are doing the bar, restaurant and checking people in. Dinner on the first night was slow with many dishes off due to the chef being too busy. On the last night we also ate in the hotel as it was a Sunday so getting by a meal in Pickering would have been tricky. Again, orders were taken quickly but the wait for a simple meal was long- well over 30 minutes. The restaurant lacked any kind of ambiance and felt like a fast food outlet. It was also freezing cold and did not feel like a nice place to relax. Our room (after requesting) was serviced on day 1 and 2 but not in our 3rd day as ‘apparently’ it hadn’t been entered in the book go do- nonsense -I’d specifically said EVERY day please and seen it written down when we checked in. I did complain and had a big apology but nothing could be done as it was so late in the day. Having read other disgruntled reviews and the reply ‘why didn’t you go to reception’ I most certainly did!!! On day three neither of the lifts worked. I don’t care if it’s a Sunday- an engineer should have been called to sort it. You’ve got a number of elderly people in this hotel so it needs sorting. We pay for services to work. If they don’t then fix them Whatever day it is. I feel Premier Inn is now run on minimal staff who work flat out. Credit to them and the staff here were really good. I wasn’t impressed with this hotel for four nights though and would avoid doing more than one night in a PI in the future.
