Southport (Ormskirk) Hotel

Nice quiet hotel, well located for the towns and villages in the area. The room was clean and tidy as was the hotel in general. The only negative was rhe fact that the restaurant had closed during my stay and was being refurbished.

The receptionist was pleasant, directed me up the stairs (no lift) to Room 14 in the older part of the hotel and said there was free wifi and free breakfast. In the event there was neither any available onsite breakfast due to building work in the adjacent Beefeater and the wifi was slow. There was an overpowering stink of damp rather like wet dogs in my room so I had no choice but to open the windows all night. Overnight I was kept awake by a sequence of noises from the car park, screaming at 00.30, lorries and vans unloading/loading at 02.30. Next morning I went down and asked for the room to be cleaned but when I came back the same stink and a dirty sink was all I found. Due to the lack of breakfast onsite, the stink in the room and the disturbed sleep I requested a refund but this was declined without any explanation. Never again!

Stayed with family, we all had separate rooms. Bed was comfortable and Janet, on reception was lovely. Room basic, as expected. Customer Service from Premier Inn was not great.I booked one room and had to call to book a second room, which was now nore expensive. Booked breakfast for 2. Due to building work and the Morris Dancer pub being sold, our breakfast was cancelled. I recieved a refund for one. Had to call again to get 2nd refund- i was told it wasn't in the package, while looking at the receipt and invoice and wasn't believed. It's gone further. Very poor service. However, go and get breakfast at Scarisbrick Marina, because it was exceptional.

Positives: plenty of free parking space, friendly staff and comfortable bed. My stay was spoilt by the location of the bedroom (room 17). It overlooked the back of restaurant and due to the noise of their extractor fans I had to keep the window closed (reduced the noise but it was still annoying). If I was to stay here again I would request a room in the annex.

My confidence with Premier Inn was shaken by a bad experience at one of their London hotels earlier in the year. After my stay at this hotel, I'm a "fan" again. Very comfortable bed. Soft pillows - harder ones were also available but I prefer soft. Good shower with clear controls. Excellent air con that kept me cool on VERY hot days - with clear instructions left in the room. And the staff are wonderful - gave me a great welcome and remembered that I had spoken to her on the phone earlier in the week.
