Herne Bay Hotel

Das Hotel ist sehr sehr sauber! Für britische Verhältnisse eine absolute Ausnahme! Die Zimmer sind großzügig, das Bad mit einer Duschbadewanne ausgestattet, die Betten sind neuwertig. Das Hotel liegt zwar an einer frequentierten Straße, ist dennoch sehr leise und absolut nicht hellhörig. Das Pesonal ist sehr freundlich und jederzeit serviceorientiert. Parkmöglichkeiten gibt des direkt vor dem Hotel. Gegenüber befindet sich ein Restaurant, in dem man sowohl Frühstück als auch Mittag- und Abendessen bekommt. Es ist kein Grandhotel, aber für eine Standart-Hotelkette ist dies wirklich ausgezeichnet.

Das Hotel liegt fußläufig zum Ort, der allerdings nicht viel bietet. Das Restaurant des Hotels ist gut, sowohl der Service als auch das Essen selber. Ein - für englische Verhältnisse- sehr großes Frühstücksbuffet, Continental und English breakfast möglich. Das Zimmer war gut ausgestattet und sauber, der Empfang leider etwas schwerfällig: man hat uns für die folgende Nacht in unserem nächsten Reiseort das falsche Premier Inn telefonisch gebucht. Natürlich das schlechtere von den beiden Premier Inns in Clacton-on-Sea...

Sehr sauber, schöne Gegend, sehr nettes Personal. Hier stimmte wirklich alles und ich habe mir das Hotel schon vorgemerkt für den nächsten Besuch in England. Die Zimmer sind sogar etwas größer als der übliche Premier Inn Standard. Auch das Restaurant war top. In jedem Fall eine Empfehlung.

Im Hotel gibt es nur englischsprachige Hinweise (ausser Rettungswege) für Frühstück, Essen oder Getränke. Kein Mitarbeiter versteht auch nur ansatzweise etwas deutsch. Für einen nicht englischsprachigen Gast sind Wünsche oder Fragen nicht kommunizierbar. Die Nutzung des Haarfön im Zimmer ist nur im Tee- und Kaffeebereich / Warmwasserkocher möglich. Die Hygiene der Tassen und Gläser ist dementsprechend.

Stayed here recently whilst attending a course nearby and unfortunately ended up cutting my stay short by one night due to the overall experience. To start with the positives, check-in was quick and easy, staff were pleasant, and the Premier Plus room itself had clearly been recently refurbished. The room and hallways felt modern, fresh and very clean visually, and the bed was genuinely one of the most comfortable hotel beds I’ve ever slept in. Unfortunately, there were quite a few issues that made the stay uncomfortable. The room had a strong smell of cigarette smoke on arrival, which I suspect may have been why the window had been left open beforehand. However, the windows only open a very small amount so it was impossible to properly air the room out, and with no air conditioning the room became unbearably hot — especially during the warmer weather this week. Even a plug-in fan in rooms would make a huge difference. The hotel is also situated on quite a busy road, and throughout the night there were multiple cars and motorbikes speeding/racing past, so even trying to sleep with the tiny amount the window opens for airflow meant being repeatedly disturbed by traffic noise. The bathroom, although newly refurbished and visually very nice, also had a noticeable damp smell throughout the stay. I didn’t raise the smoke issue during my stay as I had already checked and knew the hotel was fully booked, so an alternative room wouldn’t have been available. I also previously ran a cleaning business, so I understand that smoke smells embedded into furnishings cannot be properly resolved quickly without deep upholstery cleaning, meaning there realistically wasn’t an immediate fix available beyond temporarily masking the smell. It’s also worth noting that the pub across the car park is currently undergoing renovation works, and there is a large new-build housing estate being constructed directly opposite the hotel. This meant a lot of work vans, noise and general disruption around the hotel during the stay. The hotel car park itself could also really do with resurfacing as there are numerous large potholes throughout. In the end, between the smoke smell, excessive heat, noise and overall discomfort, I decided to lose the money and leave a night early rather than stay a second night in even hotter temperatures. A shame really, because the refurbished rooms and incredibly comfortable beds show a lot of potential.
