London Elstree / Borehamwood Hotel

Besser geht's nicht. Einen Monat im Vorfeld gebucht für 19 Pfund pro Nacht. Natürlich darf man nicht besonderen Luxus erwarten, aber für den Preis ist das Hotel unschlagbar. Wenn etwas nicht gleich klappt, ist das tagsüber tätige Personal sehr hilfsbereit. Nachts hapert es wohl etwas mit der Verständigung. Eine Buslinie verbindet es mit mehreren U-Bahn-Endstationen, von denen aus man in einer knappen halben Stunde in der City ist. Oder gleich ein Auto für wenig Geld mieten, dann kann man die Endstationen anfahren und ist gleichzeitig mobil für Ausflüge etwa nach Oxford oder Cambridge - und für die bestens bestückten Supermärkte von Tesco oder Morrisons mit allerlei britischen Spezialitäten.

Mangels großartiger Alternativen in Elstree/Borehamwood suchten wir uns dieses Hotel aus. Es hatte für mich eher den Charakter eines Motels. Viele Durchreisende übernachteten hier. Das Personal war freundlich. Ins Zentrum von Borehamwood geht man ca. 15 minuten zu Fuß. Zu den Filmstudios etwa 10 Minuten. Private Taxis fahren für ca. 4 Pfund dorthin, ebenfalls zum Bahnhof Borehamwood. Von dort gelangt man in ca. 20 Minuten nach London St. Pancras. Die Zimmer waren okay. Das Bad allerdings war sehr alt und es war auch nicht gut geputzt. Haare in der Badewanne. Spülte ich halt runter, aber trotzdem. Das Frühstück allerdings war sehr schmackhaft. English Bfast mit allem Drum und Dran. Im Großen und Ganzen ein netter Aufenthalt.

Das Hotel liegt nah am Zentrum von Borehamwood und in direkter Nachbarschaft zu einigen Business Centern und den Elstree Studios. Die Zimmer sind sauber und von der Größe angemessen. Frühstück gibt es vom Buffet. Dieses ist nicht zu umfangreich, aber auf Wunsch kann man zusätzliche Speisen bestellen. Insgesamt ein Hotel zum Aufanthalt auf einer Geschäftsreise, ohne große Annehmlichkeiten, aber sauber und solide. Aufgund der Umgebung nicht als Urlaubshotel zu empfehlen. Preislich für die Region ok.

Un albero accogliente,tranquillo,pulito con una camera spaziosa per 4 persone, con un bolo in camera ma purtroppo senza un mini bar ! Poco spazio (arredamenti) per la roba (vestiti) sia nella camera che il bagno. Senza una spazzola per il gabinetto, una grande vasca ma peccato che l’acqua è sanza presione ci metti una vita per riempire!

On arrival we were given a room on the 5th floor that had an unpleasant smell, probably coming from the drains in the bathroom. The corridor on the 5th floor did not smell clean / fresh. There was damp along the base of the wall separating the bedroom from the bathroom, this was I the bedroom alongside the bed. There was dust on the window sill. I suspect this room hadn’t been used, cleaned or inspected for a long time. We were moved upon pointing this out. The next room on the first floor had no working Aircon but there was a fan provided. Because we booked this hotel purely for the Aircon in the current UK heat I raised this issue and was given another room down the hall. This room had Aircon and a fan. The room was pretty clean. The Aircon was weak and the fan was required all night. As we were in a room alongside the main road, leaving the window open wasn’t possible. Road noise was minimal with the window closed. The walls were marked, the furniture was a bit tatty, the curtains were torn and not all attached to the hooks. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was ok. A car is a must at this location. Parking is subsidised. The lift wasn’t calling to the first floor, you had to go to reception and send it up. This wasn’t an issue for us but there was someone struggling on crutches who I had to send up the lift for. For a budget hotel at this price I can look beyond some of the superficial issues and would rate this hotel higher had we not been given the first room on floor 5. This room should never have been available at check in.
