Winchester Christmas Market 2015

A bustling winter playground in the beautiful Cathedral Close

With a reputation as one of Europe’s best Christmas destinations, Winchester’s the place if you like a traditional Christmas market. This German-inspired event features more than 100 wooden chalets, adding a rustic warm glow to the historic Cathedral Close.

This magical scene centres on the city’s festive ice rink, with the cathedral’s huge Christmas tree reaching the top of its gothic roof.

Exhibitors have been handpicked for their unique and high quality gifts, many of which you can’t buy on the high street. There’s also a selection of aromatic stalls selling bratwursts, mince pies and mulled wine - everything you need to keep you going as you browse.

Winchester’s open air ice rink

Winchester’s outdoor ice rink glistens in the centre of the Christmas market, making it easy to break off for a whirl on the ice.

While the setting is idyllic, with its medieval backdrop, the ice rink really comes into its own after twilight when the cathedral lights up and the market stalls glow.
