History

Established in 1834 to teach medicine and surgery, Newcastle University has grown to include a variety of teaching and research schools covering the sciences, as well as the arts and humanities. 

The main campus is in the north west of the city centre close to Haymarket, but the University has sites across the city. Its most famous graduates include journalist Kate Adie, actor Rowan Atkinson and politician Mo Mowlam, while Dr Martin Luther King Jr received an honorary degree from the University in 1967.

Getting there

Being based in the city centre and with excellent public transport links, students and visitors alike will find getting to and from the university easy.
